We're looking for an HTML, CSS, JS master to help us build beautiful software as a part of our UX Design Team; where we get to solve complex problems as an integral part of this 28 year old company that's moving like a startup.
The UI Dev of our Dreams
You consider the audience and the goals of a feature before implementing it. We're doing our best to create experiences. Custom solutions crafted for our products are what set us apart as a team.
Talking and planning products is smart, but theories only get us so far. We need someone that will help push us in putting pen to paper and pixels to screens. Let's do more making than talking.
You need to be able to have professional interactions with fellow team members, developers, and customers. (Email, Slack, video conference, etc.). We work very closely with everyone across many time zones. Good communication is what makes that possible.
This is different than a freelance gig where you'd go off and work on a project on your own. There will be back and forth sharing of ideas, design, and code. You need to be comfortable defending your ideas, but also be willing to move on if a different direction is required.
- Mid to senior level UI Developer (experience implementing user interfaces)
- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in front-end architecture, including performance, accessibility and usability
- Experience with or willing to learn Sass, git, and the command line
- Experience with client side frameworks like AngularJS (MVC, MVVM,...)
- Open to working within the view layer of Ruby on Rails
Nice to have
- Experience with React
- Experience building rapid prototypes
- Live in or are willing to live in Vancouver, BC (one of the best cities in North America)
Not sure if you're a perfect match? Well, if you kick an exceptional amount of ass in design or development, are a quick learner and not afraid to try something new, get in touch. We might be able to work something out.
A bit about ACL and Our UX Team
Young At Heart
We're a 28-year-old company that moves like a startup. It's the best of both worlds. We have huge customers (90% of the Fortune 500), impressive revenues, and are not worrying about our next funding round. At the same time we're creating new SaaS products with the latest and greatest technologies, inventing new things, and doing so rapidly .
We Bleed Design
Design isn't something tacked on at the last minute at ACL, it is part of the entire process and embraced by everyone. Our CEO gushes about design. Creating "Beautiful Software" is a core value. The whole company knows design is what sets us apart from the competition. We want to keep pushing, improving, and distancing ourselves from the rest of the pack.
Our UX Team is just 10 people; a mix of Designers, UX Developers, and some that wear both hats. Collaboration and peer reviews are essential to our success, so we're looking for a teammate more than just another butt in a seat. We're also all striving to make the best products we can and push each other to become better designers and developers every day. We'd love to add a few more people that can push us even further.
We have a product team (Engineers, QA, Product Managers, UX Designers, and UX Developers) of ~100 and counting. We work in small "brigades" that are a mix of engineers, a QA or two, a product manager, a designer, and a UX developer. These brigades work quickly on releasing new features on a weekly basis and occasionally entirely new products.
FASCINATING PROBLEMS TO SOLVE
While we design and build enterprise products for Governance, Risk, and Compliance professionals (totally cool if you don't understand what any of those three really mean), the problems we're solving are very relatable.
- Like Trello, we're solving collaborative workflow problems
- Like Github, we're solving social code sharing problems
- Like Basecamp, we're solving project management problems
- Like Squarespace, we're solving custom content and layout creation
- Like Facebook, we're solving social engagement and interaction problems
We have 10+ products across the web, iOS, Android, and Windows desktop; which means we have more variety and opportunity to explore as designers and developers than most startups could dream of offering. And while we've done some great things over the past few years, our next 3-4 are going to be wild. So many big challenges that will require top thinking.
We get a lot of applicants from these postings. Please let us know you care. We're such a small team that finding someone we can relate to and feel good about working alongside makes a big difference. And knowing you want this position, well, that's just gravy.
We're working on creating a site that will act as the window into Product Design and Engineering at ACL. We're calling it Build ACL. We want to showcase our culture and the lessons we've learned while building bleeding edge software used by 90% of the Fortune 500 and organizations in 140+ countries.
