Our downtown law firm client is a premier boutique commercial law firm providing services to many of the province’s industry leaders.

They are currently recruiting for a Trust Accounting Assistant to join their Accounting team. Experience or training in Accounting is an asset, as well as experience or training in real estate or conveyancing. Law firm experience is preferred. The successful candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle demands and prioritize effectively;
  • the capacity to deal with a high-level of paper flow and multiple files;
  • attentiveness to detail;
  • excellent technical & computer skills (in particular Excel);
  • strong written and verbal communication skills; and

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Trust deposits, trust cheques, trust transfers, investments
  • Accounts Receivable – Billings, general deposits, write-offs
  • Accounts Payable – General cheques: lawyer expenses and firm expenses, posting invoices, reconciling vendor statements against our records
  • Bank reconciliations for 5 general, 18 trust and invested trust funds
  • Preparing and printing reports; prepare month-end journal entries (to amortize fixed assets, expense prepaid expenses, reclassify expenses)
  • Maintain vault inventory and petty cash reconciliation
  • Train staff on PCLaw and follow up with staff inquiries regarding PCLaw
  • Order cheques and other Accounting department supplies
  • Filing
  • Assist with various accounting duties, including back-up for Accounting Manager and Firm Administrator for month end, trust accounting, payroll and benefits

The successful candidate must possess strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite.  Experience with PC Law is an asset. The successful candidate will also have strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to work with minimal supervision, exercising initiative and judgment.
