Transportation Design Manager, Highways and Roads: Harvey 1960
Helping our communities stay safely on the move. Our Transportation Highways and Roads team is your chance to work on exciting and engaging provincial and municipal highway and road infrastructure projects.
We are currently looking for a P. Eng. or an L. Eng. with 10-15 years of road and highway design experience, in the lower mainland, and for other BC clients . You will have established relationships with key lower mainland clients, and are capable of bidding, winning and delivering small to mid-size road and highway design projects. Additionally your role will be to provide day to day leadership and direct supervision for a small team of Highways and Road drafters, and techs, and to work closely with our other Western Canada offices in delivering transportation projects.
In this role, you will be supported by a strong business development team, and other senior road and highway engineers.
Have a thorough knowledge of highway, municipal and roadway engineering and design.
Actively support the Business Development Manager and Client Service Managers in developing and expanding opportunities with existing and new clients.
Leverage existing relationships to win new work
Provides input into strategy development within geography.
Participate in professional societies, seminars, training, presentations and committee memberships to advance skills and professional relationships
Champion the delivery of high quality projects that meet or exceed client expectations.
Responsibilities may include project management, design lead or design support, depending on the type of project.
Serve as a mentor to the project team, junior staff and junior engineers by assisting with finding answers to technical questions and concerns.
Serve as primary communication link for providing business group strategy and other key information to Vancouver staff.

Facilitate mentoring and help build broad employee networks
Provide primary (day-to-day) project assignment, workload leveling, workload forecasting, staff hiring and management recommendations for assigned staff (in consultation with the Operations Manager
(OM) and Geographic Manager (GM) regarding the overall business group workload demands).
Facilitate learning and development, reward and recognition, and performance issues for assigned staff.
Provide guidance for staff goal setting and where appropriate, help to remove barriers to achieving the goals.
Ensure that time and expense sheets for staff are submitted and approved in a timely manner.
Responsible for staff work assignments and client ratio.
Work closely with the Operations Manager and Project Managers to assure assignment of appropriate staff to projects.
Regularly consult with PM’s regarding staff and project performance.
Monitor project execution and progress, as well as actively assist other group leaders with staff resource, schedule, scope, budget, and client issues necessary to achieve a successful project completion. Take actions required, including involving OM and/or Regional Technology and Quality.
Manager (RTQM) to improve project performance.
Balance project delivery and client ratio metrics to ensure the right staff are assigned to projects, that an appropriate amount of technical and business oversight is in place, and that performance feedback is properly communicated.
Monitor and report on workload for staff.
Degree required Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
This is a fulltime position.
