TELUS Ventures is actively supporting growth initiatives for TELUS by investing and partnering with entrepreneurial technology companies. TELUS Ventures supports all business activity at TELUS, with a particular focus on areas in Health, Identity/Security, IOT, Tech Strategy and MITS.
You will work to source, evaluate and promote technology innovation. You will support Ventures team activities by leading in depth technical and product reviews of potential investee companies. These evaluations will include assessing the company's product status and roadmap, product value, its competitive differentiation, how to integrate into TELUS, as well as conducting code reviews and team member assessments. These reviews will form the basis for investment decisions, business case development and product development roadmaps.
Business cases developed by Ventures involve a collaborative approach to develop, monitor & analyze company progress and objectives in support of desired investment and partnership outcomes.
You will work with various team members and key leadership from various business units as well as C Level executives from investee companies. The individual will be expected to contribute to strategy development, ongoing governance (including potentially acting as a Board Member or Observer on our investee company Boards. Responsibilities:
•Interact with potential and current partner companies as well as leading vendors (Oracle, SAP) around future roadmapsQualifications:Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Lead technology reviews for Ventures potential investments
•Successfully support Ventures team members in developing and presenting technology trends and areas of focus to TELUS business units and senior leadership
•Liaison with Business Unit leads to understand product intersection points and areas of joint or mutual interest
•Potential to represent TELUS Health on Board or Advisory Board seats as appropriate
•Excellent technical understanding of software design, systems, development techniques (including Agile, etc.) Required Education:
•Quickly understanding a technology concept, even in areas without direct experience
•Understanding the relevant technical elements that matter to overall company value and success
•Experience making tradeoffs between optimal product design and time to market
•Skeptical but not overly negative
•Challenging but respectful
•Excellent communicator, using respectful discussion, critical thinking and proven experience to win the argument
•Interest in working with entrepreneurial organizations
•Ability to multi-task in complex and oftentimes stressful situations
•Negotiation and conflict resolutions skills

•Bilingual in French and English is an asset
•A Bachelor's degree in Engineering Required Experience:
•Preference for an individual with a minimum of 2 years at TELUS combined with no less than 10 years working experience, and a demonstrated ability to evaluate technology, anticipate future trends, communicate complex technologies effectively and interact with key players from different areas/backgrounds/seniority levels Who is TELUS?
•Preference for an individual who has held role(s) that have brought him/her into contact with various groups across the organization (e.g. Tech Strategy, MITS, Emerging Markets, etc.)
•Experience in developing product roadmaps, technical reviews, technology trends and analysis style reports
•Experience with well recognized technology firms to establish credibility with best practices
•Recognized as a contributor by C Level and previous experience contributing to overall strategy and decision making
•Experience or avid interest in the ecosystem around technology startups, venture capital, etc
•Preference for experience in various sized organizations i.e. having led product development or engineering in both large organization as well as a growth stage company in which products or services received market recognition from customers or partners
•Must have had leadership as Director, VP or C Level role Product Development, Product Management, Engineering, etc
