This is a full time permanent opportunity with a salary range of $53,000 to $60,000.

THE OPPORTUNITY

In the role of Technical Writer, you will be working closely with technical and financial leads at technology companies across BC. You will collaborate with product development teams to identify R&D activities that are experimental in nature, and you will be responsible for delivering concise technical reports that open the doors to government financial assistance.

Applicants should be able to converse on a diverse range of technical subjects and be committed to continuously learn about evolving science/technology domains. The ideal candidate is someone with a science or engineering background, technical writer experience, and an inquisitive nature.

Extensive training on specific government incentive programs and claim submission best practices will be provided, though previous experience composing reports/proposals for grants and tax incentive programs is desirable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet with organizational leaders and technical personnel to identify experimental development versus routine development
  • Analyze project artifacts (e.g. specifications, notes, diagrams) and interview subject matter experts to determine eligibility and extent of experimental development
  • Write project summaries that clearly and concisely communicate the scientific/technological advancements attempted or achieved, while adhering to established conventions for claim preparation
  • Collaborate with administrative teams to identify project resources
  • Audit internal documentation and knowledge transfer processes to suggest optimal approaches for information capture
  • Participate in any CRA review meetings to support claims
  • Manage ongoing client relationships, and cultivate new relationships with prospective clients

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet all job requirements listed below.

  • 3+ years technical writing experience in software/IT development, engineering, or consulting companies
  • 2+ years experience preparing claim submissions for SR&ED and/or other government assistance programs
  • Intermediate knowledge of modern software development frameworks/tools and practices
  • Hands-on development knowledge of embedded systems, IoT, and/or automation platforms
  • Basic knowledge of game development processes and concepts
  • Willingness to learn, ability to quickly grasp new scientific/technical concepts
  • Proven ability to multi-task and satisfy multiple client deadlines
  • Advanced MS Office (Word/Excel) skills
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related. Successful completion of Computer Science and writing course electives/prerequisites required
  • English is the language of work
