The Position

The Systems Analyst - Tier II supports shared administrative software applications throughout the institution, including finance, HR/Payroll, and Student systems.  The Systems Analyst – Tier II is an experienced technician with an in-depth understanding of supporting complex software applications in a higher education environment.  The Systems Analyst consults with clients to identify and implement solutions to information systems problems and, as part of the Applications Systems team, plans for the evolution of the College’s information systems.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provides enterprise application support by:

  • Acquiring and maintaining an understanding of the technical and functional architecture of assigned systems and integrations;
  • Supporting the implementation of new software systems and system modules;
  • Configuring software to meet business requirements;
  • Providing technical assistance to business units, including making recommendations and implementing configuration decisions;
  • Analyzing and correcting functional problems and providing resolving technical problems;
  • Developing and maintaining custom ERP workflows and reports;
  • Responding to requests for service, providing appropriate resolutions and maintaining associated documentation and on-line records; and
  • Creating and maintaining accurate and concise documentation related to the configuration and maintenance of all supported systems.


2. Serves as a technical contact for Selkirk's enterprise applications by:

  • Liaising with software vendors to log and identify application issues, and to document, test, and implement solutions;
  • Ability to design quality assurance plans, test scenarios, test cases and guide teams to conduct testing as part of a system delivery lifecycle including regression testing.
  • Communicating with members of the IT team for resolution of complex and inter-related systems issues (e.g. Connectivity, identity, email, integrations, etc)
  • Communicating with department managers and staff regarding the status of outstanding issues;


3. Maintains positive relationships with colleagues and other members of the College staff by:

  • Developing positive relationships with College faculty, staff and other professionals;
  • Being a positive and active participant in the Department’s responsibilities;
  • Providing support and cooperative assistance to fellow professionals and College staff; and
  • Acting with professionalism and integrity at all times.


Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

BSc Degree in Computer Science combined with a minimum of at least 3 – 5 years of directly related experience; or, a two year diploma in Computer Information Systems with a minimum of 5 years or more of directly related experience both from an appropriately accredited institution.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Developing and supporting software solutions, preferably in a cloud environment;
  • Advanced analytical and problem solving skills on a wide variety of computing hardware and software systems,
  • Hands on experience with SQL and knowledge of software development and user interface web applications
  • Expertise with at least one enterprise reporting technology such as SQL Server Reporting Services, PowerBI, or Tableau.
  • High level knowledge of at least one of the .NET languages (e.g. C#, Visual Basic .NET) and HTML5/CSS3
  • Demonstrated success as a team member, in leadership roles and working autonomously
  • Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and maintain high quality technical documentation
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment that requires proficiency in multitasking, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to contribute to Department and/or College initiatives;
  • A commitment to continuous learning.
  • (Preferred) Training in ITIL or experience with working within a formal IT Service Management standard.
  • (Preferred) Experience working with Atlassian products such as Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket.
  • (Preferred) Experience working with QA/Testing tools such as TestLodge.
  • (Preferred) Experience working with Microsoft Azure.
