The Systems Administrator, ERP is responsible for technical strategy, infrastructure design, implementation, integration, and day-to-day support activities for the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in Canfor. The primary focus of this role is Canfor’s ERP core system (JD Edwards EnterpriseOne) and related enterprise applications such as Oracle Transportation Management, Oracle Business Intelligence, and Oracle Demantra demand planning. Software responsibility also includes infrastructure components such as the Operating System, Oracle Database, and middleware software supporting the ERP applications.


  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of productions systems including JD Edwards (JDE), Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) etc.
  • Responsible for JDE CNC activities including package builds/promotions, ESU installations, Tools Updates, maintaining Object Management Workbench (OMW) and Object Configuration Management (OCM), Security Administration, JDE printer setup and configuration
  • Responsible for building out servers by loading and configuring applications for hardware replacements
  • Responsible for working with monitoring systems and teams to ensure that server health is assured
  • Support the integration of other 3rd party core business applications
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and troubleshooting critical business forms through BI Publisher
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new infrastructure systems
  • Responsible for leading root cause analysis of problems in support of continuous operational improvement

Technical Strategy and Design
  • Work with Network Administrator and Senior Technical Analyst, when required, to assess the state of the infrastructure, including servers, and make recommendations to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and provide world class support for a mission critical corporate ERP system
  • Perform a supporting role in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new and existing infrastructure systems
  • Assist in development of and adherence to strict security policies
  • Meet with decision makers to assist in defining infrastructure requirements and business goals, and identify and resolve infrastructure issues
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house and external infrastructure systems
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing infrastructure systems and recommend strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
  • Create systems models, specifications, diagrams and charts to provide direction to staff and external infrastructure providers
  • Conduct research on infrastructure hardware and software products to help justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
  • Assist with creating orientation and training materials for IT staff for all modified and new systems by providing infrastructure information and materials

  • Strong knowledge of both Windows and Linux OS platforms including:
    • Server and application installation/build-out
    • Debugging – syslog and event log analysis, performance counter usage, etc.
    • Understanding of enterprise-scale N-Tier application environments including
    • Clustering/load balancing techniques for Availability
    • System Resource optimization for Scalability
    • Scripting capabilities
  • Understanding of Oracle RDBMS and strong SQL skills (DBA level of understanding not required)
  • Pays strict attention to detail, understands importance of accuracy and responsiveness
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Ability to set and meet timelines and deadlines
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or, equivalent work experience.

  • Experience as a project leader in successful infrastructure projects
  • Experience working with third party vendors providing support for applications
  • Strong knowledge of server operating systems including: Microsoft Windows Server, Oracle Enterprise Linux, and VMware ESX
  • Strong knowledge of implementation and support of Oracle ERP applications and supporting applications
  • Strong knowledge of one or more Oracle Fusion Middleware software products and middleware integration strategies and implementation
  • Proven experience developing ERP system design strategies, leading system implementation projects, and ongoing support and evolution of ERP application systems
  • Ability to conduct business requirements needs assessments
  • 7-10 years related information technology infrastructure support experience with specifically a minimum of 3-5 years support experience with JD Edwards
  • Excellent written and oral infrastructure skills; excellent listening and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment
