Are you the kind of deep-dive engineer who is never satisfied with your solution to a performance or stability issue until you understand which lines of code were affected by - or solved - it? Do you meticulously configure servers for which you are responsible such that you can easily hand them off to others once they're stable and you're bored of them? Are your dreams filled with visions of automated configuration, build, and / or certification systems that can stamp out thousands of unique, complex servers with a single command?

At RDS, we manage one of the largest fleets of RDBMSes on Earth, and are always working to be better at it. We're building a new team focused on being very, very deep into the OS and creating the foundation for RDS' engine-specific engineering teams to build their products on top of - and you should be a part of it. Your job will be to work with our System Development Engineers, Software Engineers, and Database Engineers to further develop the Linux and Windows platforms that host our databases. You'll be responsible for defining performance and stability parameters for our database engines, OS tweaking that gets us to them, tooling that builds Linux and / or Windows images for each engine, and tests which certify that the images meet our very high standards.

Basic Qualifications • BS Computer Science or other technical degree and/or related experience • 3+ years of *IX and / or Windows system administration experience • Performance Engineering experience in an *IX and / or Windows environment • *IX and / or Windows System Engineering experience in the cloud • Firm grasp of networking fundamentals • Shell scripting and / or programming experience
Preferred Qualifications • Automation, testing or monitoring framework exposure or, even better, development • Experience with very large distributed systems • RDBMS performance Engineering experience
