Your mission

The mission of the Surgical Assistant 1(SA1) at LASIK MD is to ensure that the OR runs smoothly and assist the Ophthalmologist in LASIK MD procedures. Tasks must be done with efficiency, complete accuracy, and with the utmost quality. The goal of the Clinical Assistant is to assist during the pre-op testing and filling out the patient’s charts accurately.



  • Thoroughly prep the OR for surgery-sterilize instruments, set up tools needed, etc.  Account for all used materials.
  • Calibrate lasers and run tests regularly
  • Assist the ophthalmologist during procedures (pass tools, prep patient, etc.)
  • Reassure patient during the procedure as needed
  • Complete reports and verify inventory on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Assisting during the pre-op exams and filling the patient’s charts accurately
  • Answering patient’s questions and ensure the best service
  • Filing (when required) 
  • Updating the appointment system after every patient
  • Any other tasks as per required by the Center Director or management team



  • Excellent verbal communication skills are needed in English, must be receptive to feedback
  • Must work efficiently and execute tasks quickly, while managing personal stress and keeping calm at all times
  • Must have an eye for detail and good judgment skills, and always be alert
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize
  • Must be able to work autonomously and also collaboratively
  • Experience with and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn computer software
  • Comfortable standing for several hours at a time
  • Interest in health services field and comfortable with medical procedures and close contact with others
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to adapt to change



  • Experience in doctor’s office or other medical administrative experience would be an asset
  • Experience working in customer service and/or client care


Position details:

The selected candidate will be required to travel to work in either our Surrey, Nanaimo, Victoria or Vancouver clinics with work hours based on which clinic needs them for that week. A competitive compensation, a performance bonus as well as fringe benefits are offered for this position. Candidates must be available to work whenever clinic is open, which also includes weekends, evening and holidays.  The selected candidate may also be cross-trained in other clinical positions.  A full training is given to all new hires.
