Job Title: Support Worker 2 – Permanent Part Time

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Support Worker for Supportive Recovery is a member of a multidisciplinary team, performing a variety of duties involving client support and program oversight for an adult residential supportive recovery program. This program is a partnership between Phoenix Centre and Canadian Mental Health Association, Kamloops Branch (CMHA). This position works onsite at CMHA Emerald Centre, at an alternate location in the downtown core; and with onsite visits to Phoenix Centre as required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Works in collaboration with CMHA staff to identify facility and/or safety concerns; and works to ensure good working relationship between agencies.
Liaises with appropriate service providers within community using a collaborative and consultative process.
Assists with screening, assessment, admission and discharge of clients in partnership with Phoenix Centre Detox program team.
Supports clients in maintaining daily routines and appointments as it relates to their treatment plan.
Documents client information accurately and in a timely fashion.
Provides evaluation, documentation and statistics in accordance with established procedures.
Facilitates house meetings, check-in, and education and relapse prevention groups for clients.
Provides one-on-one support to clients on an as-needed basis.
Provides ongoing support to client’s recovery plan in partnership with other professionals in the community involved in the client’s care and treatment plan.
Assists in dealing with crisis situations.
Attends staff meetings as able.
Maintain knowledge of developments in the field of chemical dependency treatment through the review of relevant research documents and attendance at professional development workshops in the area of problematic substance use.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education, Training and Experience:
Social Worker Diploma or certification/diploma in related field from recognized educational institution with minimum 5 years’ experience working in the field of addiction and mental health.
Equivalencies of education and experience will be considered.
Skills and Abilities:
Good working knowledge of chemical dependency, stages of change, relapse, and current best practices as they relate to target population.
Able to demonstrate a respectful, empathetic, non- judgmental attitude with colleagues and clients.
Highly self-motivated and capable of working alone as well as a part of a team.
Ability to document clearly, concisely, and accurately.
Good verbal communication skills.
Able to be flexible to meet the needs of a demanding work environment.
Physically able to carry out the duties of the position.
