Work Arrangements
The Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking a Summer Program Coordinator for the Health Care Support Worker ( HCSW ) department. This position takes effect September 1, 2022 for an initial one year term with the possibility of an extension(s) up to a maximum of three years.

This position carries 2.25 sections of time release during the Summer Term (May-August) for 2023, and will revert to one (1) section of time release per year in subsequent academic years.

Preference will be given to faculty who do not have a conflict of commitment. Please refer to the Conflict of Interest Policy.

The Role
As Summer Program Coordinator for the HCSW department, the faculty member is responsible for providing leadership and departmental administration that is related to faculty functions. The faculty member in this position has:
• the responsibility to seek collegial decisions
• the authority to act on emergency issues requiring a decision, pending collegial resolution of the issue
• the responsibility to implement collegial decisions.

The successful applicant will work closely and in collaboration with the Program Coordinator.

A faculty member teaching/providing instruction within the HCSW program is responsible for instruction in a variety of HCSW courses. This includes content found within the BC Provincial Health Care Assistant ( HCA ) Program Curriculum and/or content appropriate to the education and training of unregulated care providers in mental health settings.

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Committee Membership:
    •Health Sciences Council •Health Care Support Worker Program Advisory Committee •Health Sciences Faculty Education Council •other Douglas College committees and external stakeholder committees as appropriate



Planning
    •oversees the operational management of the HCSW program(s) •in conjunction with Enrolment Services and Health Sciences staff, coordinates registration processes and faculty access to courses •maintains HCA program recognition with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry


Budget & Staffing
    •participates in preparing the operating and capital budget requests for the department, if these occur during the Summer semester, and recommends to the Dean/Associate Dean •ensures program expenditures related to supplies, travel and mileage are within approved budget parameters and has signing authority for these expenditures


Curriculum
    •attends Program Advisory Committee ( PAC ) meetings and provides leadership in seeking advisory input •facilitates curricular development and revision processes via approved College processes •oversight of program operations related to curriculum delivery •ensures appropriate procedures and policies are followed for students completing program to obtain Registry status •provides coordination for HCSW Communications Centre in the Blackboard platform


Departmental-Faculty Relations
    •facilitates effective communication and decision-making within the department •coordinates faculty orientation and provides faculty orientation to HCSW common processes and faculty roles •coordinates coaching, mentoring and developmental opportunities for faculty •provides input into probationary evaluation of faculty •supports and promotes scholarly activity •applies Collective Agreement to daily decision-making •facilitates resolution of student concerns and mediates student performance issues


Faculty of Health Sciences-Faculty Relations
    •informs Dean/Associate Dean of department operations, problems and issues on a regular basis


External Liaison
    •establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with other College departments, regulatory bodies, professional groups and other related educational programs (e.g. Provincial HCA Articulation Committee, BC CACHWR Registry) •coordinates representation of the department at external group meetings •presents at College Information (recruitment) sessions


Reporting Relationship
    •reports to the Dean/Associate Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences


To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
    •Current RPN /RN registration with no conditions with BCCNP •Bachelor's Degree required, Master's or Doctorate/PhD preferred •Five (5) or more years of full-time nursing experience preferred •Relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system and of current policies and procedures within residential, community care and/or mental health settings •Experience working with older adults with complex health needs •Demonstrated leadership competence •Demonstrated organization and management skills •Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage projects •Demonstrated positive interpersonal and networking skills, including teamwork and conflict resolution skills •Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners •Knowledge of, and experience in, curriculum development and program evaluation •Demonstrated self-direction, motivation, initiative and creativity •In-depth knowledge related to HCSW / HCA / CMHW context and practice roles •Demonstrated advocacy and commitment to the education, training on role of unlicensed care providers •Represent the goals, values and philosophy of the HCSW Department and Douglas College
