Job Summary

The Team
The Invermere Fire Zone is a smaller Initial Attack Zone within the Southeast Fire Centre, offering a close-knit team environment where staff, from crew members to officers, work together closely. The team consists of 24 people, including four Initial Attack Crews, supervisors, wildfire technicians, and support roles. Despite turnover from internal promotions, the team is experienced, with all officers having more than five years in the zone. This team plays a crucial role in emergency response, prescribed fires, and wildfire risk reduction, working alongside local partners to strengthen community safety and collaboration. Their dedication to supporting each other and their communities is central to their work.

The Role
As a Wildfire Technician, you'll manage your assigned portfolios .Your work plays a crucial role in natural disaster mitigation, primarily through fire suppression, directly impacting community safety. This position offers the chance to lead in emergency situations and make a meaningful difference for others.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree in a field related to forestry or resource management, plus one (1) year related experience*; OR
  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry or resource management, plus three (3) years related experience*; OR
  • Grade 12 plus five (5) years related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and training may be considered; AND
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience; AND
  • Valid class 5 drivers licence or equivalent

*Related experience is defined as operational emergency response experience in natural resources or a similar field.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
  • Incident Commander 4 or higher certification within the Incident Command System


Willingness statement
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements.
