Job Summary
The Team
Join the VanJam Initial Attack team, a seasoned and growing group dedicated to excellence in their field. With four established IA crews and plans to expand to six by 2025, this team offers opportunities for leadership with 2 to 6 direct reports, alongside a junior program fostering emerging talent. The team currently includes 21 passionate members, with an anticipated expansion to 33 as they build on successful seasons. With many returning members committed to long-term growth, VanJam is a collaborative and inclusive environment where your expertise can make a meaningful impact while supporting the development of the next generation.
The Role
The Fire Crew Supervisor will lead and oversee the operations of assigned initial attack fire crews, ensuring high performance and safe work practices during fire suppression activities and project work. This role plays a crucial part in keeping communities within the VanJam Zone safe and resilient through wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. Candidates will have the exciting opportunity to grow an initial attack program, working within a supportive and diverse team environment to make a meaningful impact on the citizens of British Columbia. The position offers the chance to be part of building on something new, with the added benefit of working out of a new facility.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available but may not be available during emergency operations response periods.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Vanderhoof is home to the Kenney Dam and sits on the Nechako River, in the flat spot between the BC coastline and the Rocky Mountain Range . Vanderhoof hosts events all year long, including hockey and golf tournaments.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 plus 4 seasons forest fire related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement
- Successful completion of pre-employment fitness standard
- Maintain personal weights standards as required for crew type
- Minimum 2 seasons of demonstrated supervisory experience
- Valid Class 5 driver licence
Preference statement(s)
- Candidates with Incident Commander 4 certification or higher
- Trainee Faller certification or higher
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
- To keep current on emerging issues.
- To take in-house training and certification as required.
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
- To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
- To obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements
