These are auxiliary opportunities until March 31, 2022 in various locations, which may include (but are not limited to) the following: West Coast Region (Victoria, Parksville, Black Creek, Haida Gwaii*, Port McNeill*); South Coast Region (North Vancouver, Alice Lake, Cultus Lake, Sechelt); Thompson Cariboo Region (Kamloops, Williams Lake, Hagensborg*); Kootenay Okanagan Region (Penticton, Vernon, Nelson, Cranbrook); North Coast Skeena Region (Atlin*, Dease Lake*, Smithers*, Terrace,); Omineca Peace Region (Fort St John, Fort Nelson*, Prince George, Valemount*); the * denotes a bi-weekly isolation allowance add to pay.

A unique opportunity to work in BC Parks to protect and maintain park values, and provide exceptional visitor experience

BC Parks is looking for qualified individuals to work as seasonal Senior Park Rangers in provincial parks throughout the province. Positions will include frontcountry, backcountry or marine parks. A season can last from 5 - 7 months. This competition will create an inventory of pre-screened candidates for seasonal vacancies. Appointments to qualified candidates will be made when vacancies are identified.

The primary role of the Senior Park Ranger is to serve as the front line field contact with protected areas visitors and clients through direct delivery of the full range of park management tasks in single or multiple parks. There are a broad set of tasks that may be performed by this position depending on the situational and geographical demands of the individual position location and the length of the term of employment.

Undertaking natural, cultural resource and recreation services management, you work closely with the public by providing information,addressing health and safety issues, undertaking management of park visitors and conducting compliance and enforcement duties in support of BC Parks' mandate. You work to ensure that park facilities are clean, safe and functional for use by park visitors. This involves delivering facility maintenance and cleaning, minor reconstruction and project management, and ensuring that park, resource and recreation management plans are successfully implemented. You may also be responsible to supervise staff and volunteers to ensure parks are effectively managed. You are capable of undertaking liability and risk assessments and taking corrective action to protect the rights, property and interests of the government in parks, conservancies and recreation areas. Dedicated to protecting park visitors and resources, you act as a Peace Officer to enforce compliance with the Park Act and other statutes and regulations.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
    • Undergraduate degree in natural resource management, outdoor recreation or a related field (biology, geology, resource management, recreational planning, forestry, fisheries, etc.), and one year of related experience; OR,
    • A two-year technical diploma in one of the above fields and three years' related experience; OR,
    • Secondary School Graduation (or equivalent) and a minimum of five years' related experience; OR,
    • An equivalent combination of education and related experience totalling five years may be considered.


    Related experience includes:
    • Recreational experience in integrated resource management, natural resource management, and preferably parks or recreation management, encompassing a broad range of activities and initiatives.
    • Experience in park systems operation, park conservation, and forestry operations.
    • Experience in outdoor recreation, recreation planning, and recreation service delivery.
    • Experience with backcountry travel, backcountry skiing, or adventure travel and tourism operations as a guide or assistant guide.
    • Natural and Cultural resource and Tourism management (Forestry, Archeology and Tourism related field work).


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Mandatory Training & Certification:
    • Current and WorkSafe BC recognized Occupational First Aid Level 1, 2 or 3 Certificate.
    • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence (or equivalent from another Canadian Province; a BC Class 7L/7N, or other learner's permit, are not considered equivalent).
    • Successful completion of Enhanced Security Screening, including fingerprint screening.
    • Completion of BC Parks Law and Its Administration (BCIT PRKS 1010 or 0010 course).
