BC Timber Sales (BCTS) manages about 20 per cent of the province's allowable annual cut for Crown timber, generating economic prosperity for British Columbians through the safe, sustainable development and auction of Crown timber. BCTS operates in 33 communities and directly supports over 8,000 jobs across B.C.
Data from our operations are used to help determine the market value of the timber harvested from public land and ensures British Columbians receive fair value from their timber resources.
BCTS also supports government's commitment to true, lasting reconciliation with First Nations in BC as we move toward fully adopting and implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The goal of BCTS is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the market pricing system through auctions of timber harvested from public land in BC. BCTS has three objectives supporting its goal:
Sell the full BCTS apportionment over the business cycle, consistent with safe practices, sustainable forest management, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
Generate direct net revenue and indirect revenue for the Province over the business cycle.
Continuous business improvement - within BCTS, across government and with third parties .

BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a semi-autonomous organization within the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (FLNR) with financial and operational independence from regional and district operations. BCTS plans, develops, and auctions approximately 20% of the province's annual available timber volume. BCTS is responsible for providing credible reference price and cost benchmark data for the market pricing system (MPS) through auctions of public timber.
The Business Relations Officer (BRO) works in BCTS Headquarters at the provincial level. The BRO is primarily focused on developing policy, providing strategic direction, advising, leading and assisting in the development of business-oriented natural resource management related agreements between BCTS and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and businesses; community outreach and rural communications activities; and, developing policy, providing strategic direction and providing advice to BCTS staff respecting Indigenous affairs affecting or relating to BCTS. Given the nature of this work, the BRO will be called upon to liaise with staff within and external to FLNR (including BCTS Business Areas) and government (e.g., Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, Ministry of Finance, First Nations, communities and related associations etc.).
The BROs are also responsible for providing direct support to BCTS Business Areas. Although there is overlap and sharing of duties between the Coastal and Interior BROs, generally the Coastal and Interior BROs provide support and assistance to the Coastal and Interior Business Areas respectively.
