The Team
The Compliance and Environmental Enforcement Branch is a dedicated group of professionals committed being on the front line of environmental protection. With 60 team members across the province, the branch ensures compliance with environmental laws through inspections, monitoring, and enforcement.
The Role
This role offers the opportunity to safeguard environmental and public health by managing and regulating waste discharges. You will lead projects and conduct assessments to ensure compliance with the Environmental Management Act, supporting the sustainable management of BC's natural resources. This is challenging, impactful work that is ideal for professionals passionate about environmental protection who are seeking a rewarding role in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
Related experience must include experience in any or all of the following:
o Experience with reduction, recycling, treatment, pollution control and disposal technologies.
o Experience conducting environmental monitoring, assessments and reporting related to waste discharges.
o Experience with environmental planning processes such as Waste Management Planning.
o Experience with hazardous material spill response, hazardous waste and contaminated sites.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Management, Applied Science or Natural Sciences and one (1) years of related experience; or,
- A Diploma in Environmental Management, Applied Science or Natural Sciences, and two (2) years of related experience.
Related experience must include experience in any or all of the following:
- Experience related to environmental protection and industrial and/or municipal waste management, such as:
o Experience with reduction, recycling, treatment, pollution control and disposal technologies.
o Experience conducting environmental monitoring, assessments and reporting related to waste discharges.
o Experience with environmental planning processes such as Waste Management Planning.
o Experience with hazardous material spill response, hazardous waste and contaminated sites.
- Experience using computer software, including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MS Excel) and database management.
- Experience working with multiple projects or assignments.
- Experience in negotiation with staff and clients from a diverse background.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience working for a regulatory agency responsible for the administration of waste discharges to the environment.
- Experience in liaison with environmental regulatory agencies.
- Experience with the interpretation and application of the Environmental Management Act in British Columbia.
Provisos :
- Willing and able to travel and meet the transportation requirements of the position (i.e. possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent).
- Must be physically able to perform field work, which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to work occasional evening and weekends to represent the program at public meetings and events.
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the Ministry. Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position.
