The Ministry of Forests administers many legislative authorities for lands and resources and provides clients with a single point of access to natural resource authorizations and resource management services at many locations across the province. The ministry is structured in 23 Natural Resource Districts within eight regions under the leadership of three geographically based Assistant Deputy Ministers.

Reducing the risk and impact of wildfires to communities directly supports the Ministry of Forests' vision to provide trusted stewardship of provincial land and resources that reflects the diverse values and interests of all British Columbians. The responsibilities for this position support the objective of reducing the risk of wildfire to communities within the Mackenzie Natural Resource District and may include: contract development and management, oversight and implementation of projects, community outreach, first nations engagement, threat assessments, and budgeting. This position consists of approximately 60% office work and 40% in the field.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent in a natural resource field.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes that support natural resource management.
  • Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions in natural resource management.

Preference may be given to those with:
  • Experience engaging directly with First Nations communities and undertaking the procedural components of consultation related to the natural resource sector.
  • Experience with contract administration and management.

Proviso/Willingness Statements:
  • Valid B.C. driver's licence or equivalent.
  • Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
