Based out of Fort St. John, BC Hydro Generation Engineering's Site C Project (The Project) has an immediate opening for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer who would be interested in contributing their knowledge and developing theirs, and others, abilities within the Site C Project's (The Project) Resident Engineering Team (RE Team) for the Turbine Generator Installation and Commissioning.

The Project includes a variety mechanical engineering related construction activities and BC Hydro is looking for that Sr. Engineer who has experience with, the installation and commissioning of hydroelectric mechanical systems, and leading other less experienced Engineers during the course of work. BC Hydro is passionate about developing well rounded Professional Engineers. RE Team resources will play an active role in identifying areas of interest/development, receiving encouragement to strengthen/develop new engineering expertise.

The successful candidate will play an integral part of acting on behalf of the Owners Engineer and the Project Engineer in the field, verifying the compliance of contractor constructed works in conformance with contract documents, Issued For Construction drawings, applicable industry standards and approved Inspection Test Plans, including scope, quality and schedule.

The successful candidate will: * Will be able to demonstrate successful experience with, the installation and commissioning of turbine, generator and associated auxiliary equipment, and leading other junior Engineers during the course of work. * Take a lead role ensuring the contractors quality program at site is effective by coordinating with the contractors quality representative, conducting quality surveillance and audits, and reviewing quality plans and records submitted by the contractor. * Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues in order to determine relative priorities and to assess the impact of the work on others, * Develop a strong understanding of each contract's scope/specifications/Issued for Construction

Drawings and contractor prepared drawings/submittals, providing oversight on behalf of the BC Hydro's project/owners engineer(s) and the BC Hydro Technical Delegate, to ensure each contractor's work activities are completed in conformance with the contract and design/approved work methods, * Ensure all work complies with BC Hydro specifications and/or industry standards, * Provide technical direction to other team members, and support the commercial team as required for claim analysis and schedule options. * Use construction experience to proactively anticipate, identify and assist with the mitigation of contractor interfaces and/or related construction risks, prepare written construction progress reports, Prepare and deliver technical presentations to Project stakeholders/regulators, * Have developed, reviewed and signed off quality control/assurance documentation relating to the contractor witness and hold points as required by contract documents, IFC drawings and ITP's * Be a leader in working safely and efficiently, * Be a leader in the ability to collaborate with, support, and assist other disciplines like, protection and control, electrical, civil, quality management, construction management and project management, * Lead a project team that includes engineers, construction officers, operations personnel, project managers, safety & environmental professionals, and other stakeholders,


* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, * 8-10 years or more directly related experience being a contributor in a team environment, * Individuals with lesser qualifications might be considered for an Intermedia Engineer role * Be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), * Knowledge of engineering theory, principles and practices as they relate to hydro mechanical components, * Working knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs and procedures, * Ability to read and interpret mechanical civil and electrical drawings, * Experience with construction of hydroelectric projects, specifically, the installation and commissioning of turbine, generator and associated auxiliary equipment is considered an asset, * Demonstrated experience with identification of construction problems and resolution, * Ability to understand multi-discipline designs concepts depicted on construction drawings, * Ability to promote effective communication within a multi-discipline team (safety, environmental, mechanical, electrical, civil, regulatory), * Working safely, including promotion of a safety above all else culture in the work place, * Interpretation and development of schedules for large construction projects, * Mentoring/developing junior technical staff, * Preparation of regular project summary reports, * Maintaining quality throughout a project and implementing improvements when determined, * Effective communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, * Strong report writing and computer application skills, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Office, * Strong leadership and analytical skills, * Be comfortable traveling to and working at a construction site covering a variety of shift schedules up to 10 hrs/day over the project duration.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This location is eligible for a Remote Incentive of 12%. Remote Incentives are paid bi-weekly to Full-Time Regular employees working in eligible remote locations. A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain the following requirements in good standing:
