JOB DESCRIPTION Duties:
* As an experienced professional engineer, engages in the engineering of electrical utility Protection and Control systems and develops specialized expertise in design engineering. * Analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable independence. * Manage medium sized projects and work packages, write specifications, technical reports and standards, estimate capital costs, lead and mentor technical staff, manage project resources and provide technical and site support during the installation and commissioning of protection and control equipment. * Provide work leadership and technical direction to engineers, consultants and technical support staff, coordinate projects of some complexity and plan and manage resources, and develop innovative methods of design for complex P&C problems. * Review work of the project team and of consultants and contractors to ensure accuracy, achievement of required results and adherence to accepted engineering practice. * Impart engineering knowledge and encourage the professional development of engineers. * Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external colleagues in order to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and resolve issues of concern. * Engage in the detailed design of electrical utility generation protection systems, automated unit control schemes, digital relays and PLC programing, electrical and non-electrical protection, governor and exciter control systems, water flow and spillway control systems, air gap and unit vibration monitoring, shear pin monitoring, spill gate controls, reservoir level monitoring, penstock protection, unit auxiliary controls, control room design and public warning systems, etc. * Recommend solutions that go beyond accepted practice and precedent in order to improve results and control impacts. * Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with internal colleagues in order to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and facilitate the resolution of issues, and manages stakeholder, supplier and service provider relationships to accomplish

objectives and resolve issues of concern
* Engineering degree in electrical engineering accompanied with ongoing development such as self-study, attendance at technical and administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies, and eligibility to be registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC). * Eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering field, with four (4) years of experience in either generating station P&C design or generating station P&C field engineering. * Candidates with four (4) plus years experience in a relevant engineering field may be considered for an Intermediate Engineer position.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION * Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background and expertise in Protection and/ or Control System design and commissioning. * BC Hydro has a strong safety culture and the candidate will be expected to be a role model in practicing and integrating safety into all aspects of their work. * This is a Full Time Temporary Position for approximately 12 months. * Persons with lesser qualification & experience (4+ years) are welcome to apply and may be considered for an intermediate level position.
