Sr Controller/ VP of Finance - Real Estate Development or Property Management

Express Employment Professionals, Delta, is recruiting for Senior Controller/ VP Finance with finance and accounting experience in property development, construction or real estate. If you have a lot of the qualifications but not quite complete, please also discuss with Express-Delta.

This position is responsible for the overall accounting and finance function of the company. As well, the HR Manager does understand that you do not necessarily have all the experience, especially as it pertains to overseeing 25+ accounting staff. The successful candidate will ideally have a background in construction or development or have a strong understanding of at least one of our client’s major operating divisions. Responsibilities include:

* Oversee the accounting/finance processes of multiple business units across multiple industries

* Provide leadership and assume related responsibilities as a member of the Executive Staff

* Implementing best practices: Accounting, Tax, Cash Control, HR, etc.

* Formulation and execution of short and long term business plans

* Financial viability review for prospective business acquisitions

* Oversight and approval of long-term cash flow projections

* Maintenance of corporate structure, creation of new companies/partnerships, dissolutions, amalgamations

* Lead the Business Unit forecasting and budgeting processes

* Cash management and continual maintenance of cash flow forecast

* Work closely with Company executives to map new analytical initiatives to give better insight into business

* Be a role model for the company culture; support the positive elements of the culture and the implementation of procedural, process and organizational changes

* Have the ability to build and lead a finance/accounting team as the Company continues to grow

* Lead and support special projects assigned by the president

Oversee workload and output of financial and accounting teams

* Review Financial Statements and all Tax filings

* Oversee organizational controls and risks

* Preparation of consolidated financial statements and other bank reporting

* Cash flow management - Review daily cash requirements and allocate funds as required

* Systems control, for IT related infrastructure and software

* Budgets, Forecast and variance analysis

* Hiring, training and development for accounting team

* Ad hoc financial analysis as required by the owner, CFO or VP Finance

* Create, modify or amend policy, procedures and accounting controls required for daily operations

* Work with purchasing department and large vendors to ensure any pricing and outstanding discrepancies are effectively managed

Qualification Requirements:

* CPA designation required

* A minimum of 3 years in a VP role

* 5 or more years Controller experience

* Skilled at arriving at and reaching understandings and agreements with a broad range of people internally and externally

* Ability to problem solve quickly and react to changes in business processes efficiently

* Demonstrated ability to foster and lead cost-efficient initiatives without sacrificing quality or core values

* Experience in the construction, real estate or hospitality industry is an asset

* Excellent analytical and Excel capabilities – ability to synthesize data per FP&A responsibilities

* Desire to expand responsibilities and leadership influence as the company continues


* Professional designation required (CPA/CA/CMA/CGA)

* Tenacity, confidence, resilience, drive and ambition

* Self-led and motivated by creating results and making an impact

* Honest and straight forward

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must

* Strong leadership skills and both the ability and desire to mentor and direct junior staff

* Previous corporate tax experience is a definite asset

* An uncompromising work ethic and close attention to detail

* An analytical mindset with the ability to incorporate operational needs as well as work jointly with field managers to develop applicable financial models

* Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and maintain an organized and efficient workload

* Experience with Timberline/Sage 300 is an asset
