Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services is mandated to provide in-patient and outpatient Court-ordered and Court-related assessment and treatment for young offenders pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services also provides services to young persons found unfit to stand trial or not criminally responsible due to mental disorder (N.C.R.M.D.) pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services are provided through outpatient clinics and contracted service providers in various locations throughout the province and through one inpatient assessment unit. Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services is divided into four macro regions, each with regional managers; these five macro regions include the North, the Interior, the Lower Mainland, South Burnaby and Vancouver Island. The Inpatient Assessment Unit is located in Burnaby.

Assessment and treatment services for youth may include specialized treatment services for: youth who have committed violent or sexual offences, youth wo have offended and are experiencing mental health, behavioural, drug and/or alcohol addiction problems; and youth in custody facilities who require mental health services.

In this role you will co-ordinate and supervise the administration of Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services programs for youth who have offended within the various clinics and catchment areas served by these clinics. In addition, this position provides direct clinical assessment and treatment services to youth clients and the youth courts. This position reports directly to the Regional Manager and works closely with the Regional Clinical Director.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, M.Ed (Counselling) or MA (Clinical Psychology).
    • NOTE:If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum of three years of post degree clinical experience providing adolescent, outpatient oriented mental health assessment and treatment services.
  • Must be registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers. As a condition of employment, successful MSW prepared candidates are required to obtain clinical registration with their regulated professional body within 12 months of employment.


Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Recent supervisory experience (gained with in the past 3 years).
  • Experience in assisting with program coordination functions or program management functions.

Proviso:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
