Job Summary

The Team
The Practice Teams provide an engaging environment where you can grow your skills and build meaningful connections within the service delivery area and across the province. You will have the chance to influence policy and practice, and community partners through active participation in trainings, clinical consultations, committees and provincial working groups. As we advance with provincial initiatives, you'll play a key role in leading practice and driving change, both locally and provincially.

The Role
As a Provincial Practice Consultant, in the Provincial Practice Branch, you will play a vital role in providing clinical consultation, policy interpretation, support and mentoring to practitioners, Team Leaders and Director of Operations in the Service Delivery Area. You will also work alongside practitioners, multi-disciplinary consultants and leadership to identify training needs to enhance practice as well as support policy implementation and training initiatives for both Ministry and Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies (ICFSAs) staff. Your work will help foster best practices and contribute to the delivery of high quality services to children, youth and families.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
1. Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Job Specific Experience (Preferred and Expanded Credentials):
  • Experience working with and planning for children and youth in care gained in a legislated child protection agency that provides child welfare services (child protection, guardianship, resources, adoption and children and youth with special needs (CYSN)) to indigenous and non-indigenous populations; this may include progressive responsibility in child welfare services in a legislated child protection agency and/or managing/supervising a team of employees who work in child welfare.

Additional Experience Requirements:
  • Experience mentoring and leading staff.
  • Currently possess or immediately eligible for C6 Delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • A minimum of four years' experience in the Child Protection specialty area within the last six (6) years.
  • Experience providing training and group facilitation.

Preference will be given to applicants with the following:
  • Applicants with preferred education credentials AND in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Bachelor or Master in Social Work, or Bachelor or Master in Child and Youth Care, or Master of Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare.
  • One (1) or more years of experience providing training and group facilitation.
  • One (1) or more years of experience providing services directly to Indigenous, First Nations, Métis and Inuit children, youth, families.
  • Experience in policy and program development and implementation.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous with the required combination of education and experience.

Please note:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:
Currently there are two opportunities; 1 opportunity in Maple Ridge and 1 opportunity in Abbotsford.
This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Child and Family Development offices: Port Moody, Burnaby and Maple Ridge. A requirement of the position is to be available in the various offices throughout the northern part of the SDA so there is flexibility in planning your locations each day.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
