The Team
With six passionate team members, this newly created team is committed to improving the lives of children and youth by offering a full spectrum of services from intake to permanency. Our team consists of an Adoption, Permanency, and Guardianship position which focuses on providing services for adoptions, guardianship, and permanency options in the East Kootenay area. We have three Child Protection positions who provide services to Creston and to other offices in the East Kootenay area as needed. There is a Collaborative Practice facilitator and a Team Leader to oversee the team. Our team benefits from a diverse mix of experience and expertise that makes our team a supportive and impactful place to work.
The Role
In this rewarding Adoptions and Guardianship/Permanency Planning Worker role, you will prepare children for adoption by creating comprehensive reports on their birth, family, and social history, while also addressing their emotional needs related to separation and loss. You will be responsible for documenting adoption planning and assessing adoptive families. You will be developing a care plan that incorporates input from both the child and their caregivers. Guardianship workers work closely with caregivers and children and youth in care while performing several job duties, such as informing caregivers of their responsibilities, monitoring the placement of children and providing guidance regarding children's behaviour. This position is all about ensuring that children and youth find the permanency they need to feel loved, secure, and connected. You'll be part of a collaboration of co-located teams that includes Child and Youth Mental Health, Children and Youth with Special Needs, and Child Protection, working together harmoniously to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

- Bachelor'sDegree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
- In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
- A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
- NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
2. Expanded Credentials:
- Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree witha Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
- PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.

- Applicants with SAFE (Structured Analysis Family Evaluation) training and experience using the SAFE assessment tool.
- SAFE home study training. Experience completing SAFE Home Studies.
- Recent experience (within last 2 years) working with extended family who are caring for children and/or working with foster caregivers and/or prospective adoptive parents.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
