Island Health is hiring a Full-time Specialist, Information Technology Solutions 

Network Architecture is a newly formed department that will eventually have three teams (Route/Switch, Collaboration, and Security) responsible for Island Health’s network design and senior administration of critical network infrastructure. As the Specialist, Information Technology Solutions, you will be known as the Network Architect (Collaboration) and will lead the corresponding team.

Skills that would be an advantage include Cisco Call Managers (inc SME), Unity Connection Servers, Cisco Emergency Responder, Cisco Contact Centre Express, Cisco Webex Meeting Server, Video Conferencing bridging, Expressway/VCS, Cisco Unified Border Elements, Advanced Console, Vocera Staff Communication, Dial Plan experience, PRI monitoring and Capacity Planning.

In this role, you support Island Health’s strategic and clinical objectives by developing and championing the implementation and adoption of new and improved technology solutions that align with Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) and provincial standards. You provide expert vision, direction and leadership to advise executive and senior IM/IT staff, guide project teams, staff, contractors and vendors to ensure technical solutions are successful.


Along with your degree in Computer Science, you have 10 years’ experience including technology deployment and management in a large clinical setting (or equivalent level of education, training and experience). You have considerable experience managing large, diverse technology projects including planning, executing and evaluation. Experience in research and analyses of industry, market and technology trends are an asset. You have the ability to keep your skill set up-to-date with new technologies. 

Our IM/IT department provides direction on how information and technology can be used to achieve Island Health’s vision of high quality, coordinated health care in British Columbia. This vision sees patients and clients in the region empowered through the use of technology to access personal health information electronically, and receive care in their communities.
