Our client, Aviso Wealth is committed to offering comprehensive, market-leading wealth management solutions to the retail public as well as the customers of over 500 financial institutions including credit unions, banks, trust companies and financial planning companies across Canada.  We currently administer over $60 billion of investment assets through our subsidiaries.  Their goal is to be a leading provider of wealth management solutions to enable our stakeholders to achieve their financial goals.   

The Role

Their continued growth and development has created the need to fill a Software Development Manager role. The responsibilities for this role will include leading a team of Aviso’s in-house software developers on corporate software development projects, working with the development management team to build and manage software development projects, software architectures, software development life cycle, public websites, software outsourcing to third party vendors, and various research and development activities. 

This role requires Enterprise Java development / architectural skills with hands-on java coding and proven supervisory and managerial responsibilities (code reviews, supervisory, technical and project management, performance management experience, external third-party management, etc.)


Technical Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in enterprise Java software development, frameworks and software architecture;
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems and database programming (Oracle 12c & SQL Server 2016);
  • Strong knowledge of web servers and JEE application servers (Apache, WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat);
  • Knowledge of web standards, Internet protocols and RFC standards;
  • Proven ability to deliver construction of enterprise Java systems in a fast paced, dynamic technical environment;
  • A software development related degree from a recognized institution, with a blend of at least 12 years of team leadership, software architecture, and software development experience; 
  • Demonstrated ability to envision software services that meet consumer needs or solve business problems and develop specifications;
  • Version control systems (GIT) and continuous integration systems knowledge;
  • Familiar with more than one software development methodology;
  • Familiar with software development on both Windows and Linux platforms; and




Nice to Have:

  • Web server infrastructure strategies (global load balancing and clustering);
  • Exposure to business theory, business process development, governance processes, management, budgeting and administrative operations;
  • Experience with SOA architectures and ESB frameworks; and
  • Software security standards.


Non-Technical Requirements:

  • Previous experience mentoring, supervising, and growing a development team.
  • Proven leadership ability, development management, and project management experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior analytical, evaluative and problem solving abilities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well across all organizational levels.
  • Keen attention to detail and exceptional customer service inclinations;
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, customer service and communication skills.


Financial services industry experience and a strong interest in on-line trading, wealth management, while not mandatory, will be considered a very strong asset.
