Kano ( is looking for a Software Developer to help drive development on our games that service millions of players. With Kano you’ll design your own workflow and be responsible for development, testing, code review, architecting, estimating, and planning. We’re a small team where the code you write gets deployed fast. You will push code live and often to hundreds of thousands of players worldwide!

Working long, 80-hour weeks is NOT our standard. Do we crunch? Sometimes; but, we work to avoid it and we actively collaborate to meet our targets without it. Plus, Kano is local and boot strapped. Headquartered in YYJ, we don’t do things “because corporate says so”. Our deadlines are there because we aspire to grow and keep our players happy.

Hate an open office? Well we’ve got one! And yeah, we know that can often mean two people collaborating amongst a sea of headphones. But, overall, we’re a pretty quiet bunch that can hunker down and get sh*t done.

If you’re a developer with an established background in customer-facing, high volume systems and you possess strong technical ability we want to hear from you. If you balance your technical skills with a passion for gaming as well as a sincere want to provide great experiences for customers then we’d love to offer you something different:

Flexible hours, an honest and able group of peers, the opportunity to take charge in the work that you do, and the chance to work in beautiful Victoria, BC.

You’ll be working on things like:

  • Designing, implementing, testing, deploying and maintaining high-volume, high-availability, large-scale social and mobile games
  • Taking ownership for game code and features, writing efficient and organized code, and enforcing high quality standards
  • Making key game design and technology decisions and following through on the results with monitoring and metrics
  • Working closely with small development teams in an agile environment to continuously ship code
  • Working with product and creative teams to plan and execute development and releases, building towards world-class products

Your background should include:

  • Expertise with HTML5 and Javascript games development
  • 3+ years development with high-level languages
  • Experience developing for Android/iOS
  • Back-end or full stack development experience
  • Experience shipping consumer facing software products and/or games
  • Strong understanding of OO and modern software design principles
  • A strong desire to build something that people really want
  • BSc in Computer Science or equivalent

It'd be a big plus if you have:

  • Experience with game optimization techniques
  • Experience with AWS
  • Working knowledge or experience with Unix/Linux
  • Experience with PHP
  • Continuous integration and automated testing experience

We believe in fun and meaningful work environment:

  • 2014 VIATEC Employer of the Year - Winner
  • 2017 VIATEC Company of the Year (11-49 employees) - Finalist
  • Challenging & results driven culture with lots of perks (Hack Days, Super Smash Bros., foosball, coffee, lunches, run club, book club, etc)
  • Personal laptops, 24 inch monitors and Herman Miller Aerons
  • Health and dental benefits
  • Profit share program
  • Opportunity to work on game projects that are enjoyed by millions of players worldwide!
  • Ability to make a difference. Have an idea? Talk directly with leadership about it instead of running through layers of bureaucracy
