  • Summary:
    The Shop Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, leading and controlling the flow of service work through the service department in a professional, timely manner while ensuring quality repairs at a fair cost to the customer. Further responsibilities include conducting service check-ins, scheduling, estimating, selling, updating, and following up with customers during the entire service process.
    • Implements and maintains an effective dispatch system.
    • Schedules shop work to facilitate maximum productivity in accordance with dealership policy and the technician skill level required.
    • Reviews job status frequently, logging status and reporting any change in time or cost estimates to the appropriate service advisor, customer, and/or the credit department.

    Service Advisor Duties:
    • Schedules service appointments. Obtains customer and vehicle data prior to arrival when possible.
    • Greets customers in a timely, friendly manner and obtains vehicle information.
    • Writes up customer's vehicle/equipment problems accurately and clearly on repair order.
    • Refers to service history, inspects vehicle/equipment, and recommends additional needed service including checking for any outstanding recall notices.
    • Provides a complete and accurate written cost estimate for labour and parts.
    • Establishes "promised time." Checks with dispatcher, if necessary.
    • Contacts customers regarding any changes in the estimate or promised time, explains cost and time requirements in detail, and gets proper authorization before any additional repairs are performed.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Supervises the service shop technicians.
    • Supervises and works alongside the service advisors.
    • Has authority to direct technicians' work and monitor performance.
  • Requirements:
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) essential
    • Post-secondary diploma or trade certification preferred
    • Qualification as a Journeyperson is an asset
    • Three years related experience and/or training
    • Valid Commercial Driver's License
    • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 kgs or 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to walk around shop floor/parts department and sit/stand at service counter
    • Functions well with large volume and fast-paced work environment.
