Position Description:

As an integral member of the MDA Corporate Finance team, the Senior Manager, Tax will be involved in various corporate taxation matters. This will include implementation of tax planning strategies, management of various aspects of Canadian and international reporting and compliance processes and leading the preparation of financial statement income tax provision working papers. This position will also support the Senior Director, Taxation in obtaining tax opinions, advice and making recommendations regarding the overall tax implications of business activities and strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions and disclosures for MDA;
  • Lead the preparation of all Canadian and international income tax returns, both prepared internally and in consultation with external advisors;
  • Coordinate with various business units within the organization to execute corporate tax strategies;
  • Research and document income tax issues impacting MDA Canadian and international operations;
  • Lead or assist in developing and executing tax planning aspects of external and internal transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, financing and corporate reorganizations;
  • Oversee preparation of Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) claims;
  • Manage transfer pricing, including transfer pricing documentation, audit defense and planning;
  • Coordinate and monitor the tax department's compliance with internal control procedures;
  • Ensure compliance with income, capital and commodity tax policies for the management of tax issues affecting the organization;
  • Assist in monitoring and managing risks in connection with individuals working abroad;
  • Manage and assist in income, capital and commodity tax audits;
  • Liaise with external tax advisors, legal counsel, and government officials

Requirements (experience / skills):
  • Canadian accounting designation;
  • Completion of CICA in-depth tax course;
  • At least 6 years of post qualification tax experience;
  • String research and writing skills;
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian corporation taxation;
  • Basic knowledge of transfer pricing and Canadian international tax rules;
  • Experience and knowledge of the SR&ED program an asset;
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing, deadline oriented environment;
  • Excellent attention to details, while maintaining a high level of efficiency;
  • Ability to work well with others across the organization
