The primary responsibility of the Senior Internal Auditor is to plan and conduct specific risk-related projects in Teck Resources' operations and development projects around the world. The position reports to the Manager, Internal Audit.

The Senior Internal Auditor is part of the Audit and Operational Review team that helps Teck create sustainable value through governance, risk, compliance, and advisory services through engagements that add value. The Senior Internal Auditor will be responsible to plan, execute, and report on projects throughout the year including investigations, compliance audits, operational and financial risk reviews. The results of these projects will be communicated to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.

With this role you must be able to work at high altitude (requires an Altitude Test) and must have a valid driver's license.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Leading and delivering internal audits, special projects and ad hoc engagements as per the directives of management, the Audit Committee, or at the request of Managers of Internal Audit in accordance with the approved plan, department standards and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Delivering and as assigned leading all aspects of internal audits including planning, risk assessments, developing audit programs, executing fieldwork, and preparing reports.
  • Completing audit assignments either independently or as part of a team and meeting schedules. Expected to prepare time and expense budgets, monitor progress, and lead audit teams and monitor consultants/audit staff including the coordination of work.
  • Document, communicate and discuss findings related to engagements with stakeholders.
  • Assisting management with the identification and assessment of risks and controls.
  • Developing recommendations that will strengthen the Company's overall systems of internal control and assist in improving the efficiency, effectiveness and profitability of the Company.
  • Following up with management to ensure agreed management actions have been properly implemented.
  • Performing audit work remotely and/or at the company's operating sites and administration offices in Canada, the U.S., and potentially in Chile and Peru as required. Expected travel ranges from 15% to 35%. Some locations are camp sites, of which 2 in South America are at high altitude.
  • Assisting Manager of Internal Audit with ad-hoc audit and investigation duties, and leading strategic continuous improvement initiatives as required and as assigned.


  • Post-secondary education in business, risk management, engineering or information technology.
  • Professional designation (CPA, CISA, CIA or equivalent designation), with a CIA desirable.
  • Strong understanding of ethics, risk management, and internal controls and/or sound business acumen, practical ethical decision making, and business-process continuous improvement mindset is a must.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience assessing internal controls, business processes or risk management. SOX compliance experience an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Adaptive mindset and resiliency to approach challenges as opportunities is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with team members, internal/external stakeholders with various backgrounds and at different levels in the organization is a must.
  • Open and articulate communicator with strong oral and written communication skills are required in English. Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively solve problems in an ever-changing environment is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage, connected to purpose to be self-driven.
  • Digital literacy as both a user of technology and knowledge of information technology governance, risk, controls, and best practice considered an asset.
  • Data fluency demonstrated through ability to use, explore, analyze, interpret and communicate data to drive decision making considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with internal control frameworks (COSO) and experience in risk management processes desirable.
  • Experience with extractive industries and related risks is an advantage.
