As a Licensed Early Childhood Educator the purpose of this senior level position is to lead the planning, coordination and implementation of the child development programs, as well as creating meal plans, shopping and monthly calendars. This position is the go-to person for team and families. The incumbent ensures the well-being of families and children by managing and implementing programs conducive to early childhood education and development. The child development programs are designed to meet the varying needs of children and parents in the community. The position provides hands-on support in a child care setting; ensuring programs are running smoothly and is the main liaison with parents, as well as for intakes. The incumbent is also responsible for completing various reports i.e. attendance, quarterly, and funding reports. The incumbent works well within teams, and functions as a program lead, operating with a high level of people interaction, responding with courtesy, tact & diplomacy.

 Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts intakes with families for children birth to 6 years.
  • Leads the planning, coordination and implementation of child development programs.
  • Ensure culturally appropriate programs in place.
  • Care for children.
  • Ensures a healthy and safe environment for programs.
  • Functions as key contact to maintain open and positive communication with parents.
  • Responsible to ensure effective inclusion of children who are at risk of or diagnosed with developmental delay.
  • Completes files/reports for parents, Manager and Province as required.
  • Adheres to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures.
  • Participates as a member of Family Centres and Ayas Men Men Child & Family Services Teams.

 Education, Level of Experience & Hiring Requirements:

  • Early Childhood Care & Educator Diploma with an Infant Toddler & Post Basic Special Needs Certificate, with License to Practice.
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly-related experience in an early childhood setting as licensed educator and majority of duties listed in the job description, including experience in supporting children with disabilities or extra support needs, working in multi-disciplinary team, program leader or performed leadership responsibilities including administration and program planning, acted as main liaison with parents, written communication with families, community, and monthly/quarterly reports and documentation, etc.
  • As career progresses, incumbent will be required to successfully complete job-required, short-term upgrading, training and courses relating to classroom management, Squamish language, First Nation’s child development, curriculum development, language immersion, etc.
  • Experience as a beginner user of MS Office, the internet, etc.
  • Previous experience working in a First Nations Community (particularly Squamish) is an asset.
  • Must have a valid First Aid & CPR Certificate or be willing to obtain within a set timeframe.
  • Must have a valid Food Safe Certificate or be willing to obtain within a set timeframe.
  • Must provide a copy of immunization record.
  • Must provide a doctor’s letter/medical certificate stating sound physical and psychological health.
  • Must successfully complete Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector search as per Squamish Nation Policy
