 The Senior Controller position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (ASPE).Position overview:

Principal Accountabilities:


  1. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  2. Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  3. Participate as an active member of the management team and maintain productive relationships with other department managers

Risk Management

  1. Monitor internal controls and make improvements where necessary
  2. Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  3. Ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  4. Ensure record keeping meets the requirements of auditors, lenders and government agencies
  5. Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations
  6. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  7. Plan, monitor and maintain control over the company’s cash flow


  1. Prepare and maintain annual budget and periodic forecasts
  2. Issue timely and complete financial statements to the ASPE standard
  3. Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
  4. Calculate and issue financial metrics
  5. Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to the board of directors
  6. Provide for a system of management cost reports
  7. Prepare and issue all reporting required by the company’s lenders
  8. Prepare and present the monthly Management Reporting and Analysis package to the board of directors.


  1. Oversee the accounts payable function and ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  2. Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  3. Ensure Process payroll in an accurate and timely manner
  4. Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
  5. Prepare or review all monthly reconciliations
  6. Maintain the chart of accounts
  7. Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions


  1. Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  2. Coordinate the provision of information to external accountant for the tax return preparation in all information related to SR&ED investment tax credit claim
  3. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  4. Comply with provincial and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Human Resources

  1. Maintain and recommend changes to human resources policies

 The candidate should have 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in finance and accounting with a minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing operation with an ERP.  A Chartered Professional Accountant designation or foreign equivalent is required.Qualifications:
