Role Overview

Reporting to the Director of External Communications, the Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, writing, coordinating and project leading strategic communications that maintain and strengthen Teck's reputation with external audiences and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver written communications materials that support corporate priorities, including CEO and other senior executive speaking remarks, briefing materials, reports and brochures, communications plans, video scripts, presentations, and other materials.
  • Develop and implement communications strategies that drive stakeholder awareness and support of company activities.
  • Provide support and act as back-up to Director, External Communicationson strategic media relations, media responses and managing approvals and dissemination of disclosure materials including corporate news releases.
  • Work with site-level teams to provide communications and issues management support.
  • Participate as a member of and provide support to the crisis communications team, as the need arises.
  • Provide strategic communications advice to senior leaders.
  • Develop communications plans and materials for Teck's key community investment and corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Provide support to other major projects and initiatives at Teck, as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in the field of corporate communications.
  • Post-secondary education around communications, public relations, or a relevant field is considered an asset.
  • Strong writing experience is required, including executive speeches and briefing materials.
  • Media relations experience is an asset.
  • Strong ability to distill complex information for communication to a range of audiences.
  • Solid project management skills, prioritise multiple priorities based on relative importance and urgency.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of all media used in organizational communication.
  • Strong process orientation, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where timing is essential.
  • Strong computer skills, in particular with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work across all levels of the organization, and coordinate the work of other internal resources.
  • Proficiency in Spanish an asset.

Pay Range: CAD $107,000 - $132,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
