Position Overview

We are looking for a tech-savvy Senior Communications Manager who is passionate about technology and business trends and likes to solving big problems. Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will provide executive communications and writing support for the Chief Technology Officer and other executives in the technology organization.

You will be working with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver integrated communications strategies for TELUS-wide initiatives and thought leadership programs for our technology leaders.

The successful candidate will advise senior leaders on internal and external communications, draft a variety of communication across different channels, help manage organizational changes, and work with key stakeholders in Canada and around the world.


The successful candidate will work as a member of the communications team and will be responsible for helping to:
    •Develop, implement and evolve best-in-class integrated communications strategies, tactics, key messages and metrics that support the Chief Technology Officer and other senior executives, CTO strategic programs, enhance engagement and enable team member advocacy
    •Write and manage the creation and production of marketing and communications deliverables related to the portfolio including websites, newsletters, email bulletins, articles, op-eds, , organizational announcements, presentations & speaking notes
    •In partnership with key stakeholders, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of key team events and programs, such as senior leader roadshows and team calls.
    •Act as a trusted advisor who can proactively guide senior-level executives
    •Proactively manage the communications strategy for internal organizational changes including the development and execution of strategy, project management, and risk assessment
    •Manage the CTO's social media strategy and content development
    •Develop and manage strategic, event and program-based initiatives individually and/or in collaboration with cross-functional supporting teams
    •Work collaboratively with key stakeholders in media relations, government relations, and investor relations teams to deliver communication services and programs that drive the company's business priorities and align with our brand
    •Propose and track key performance indicators for communications
    •Build and manage a network of dialogue and consultation with various internal stakeholders and partners, and collaborate with external partner organizations


Required Skills & Abilities:

You are:
    •An excellent storyteller who has the gift of distilling complex topics and bringing them to life, igniting inspiration among TELUS team members and other audiences.
    •An exceptional writer, editor, proof-reader, researcher and storyteller
    •An exceptional project manager who is able to demonstrate the ability to work with cross-functional teams and lead large programs
    •Excited and able to learn and embody an executive's (C-level) voice
    •Organized, strategic and able to lead multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
    •Agile and driven to scrutinize existing methods of working using insights and data
    •Influential, with exceptional collaboration, relationship and consultative skills, including managing a demanding and sophisticated audience of senior leadership
    •Interested and engaged in industry trends, competitive and regulatory issues and news
    •Strategic vision and business acumen with results-oriented approach, and a marked focus on client satisfaction
    •Ability to adapt to a challenging and rapidly-evolving work environment, multi-task, manage budgets, juggle multiple requests, prioritize projects, and meet tight deadlines
    •Technical ability to create and distribute digital communications using a variety of software programs

Required Background:
    •University degree in Communications, Journalism, Writing, or Public Relations or equivalent experience

Required Experience:
    •Minimum of 8+ years of experience on a Corporate Communications team, preferably for a major national organization or communications agency
    •Analytical ability to produce performance reports and track the success of communications activities

    •Additional post-secondary education, an accredited public relation, communications or marketing
    •Knowledge of G Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, working knowledge of Canva
