 Senior CISCO Unified Communications Engineer (UCCE) – Full Time Regular 

As a member of the Telecom Engineering team, you will have responsibility for designing, configuring and supporting the Cisco Enterprise infrastructure driving the company’s IP PBX/VoIP growth.  The Senior Cisco Engineer will serve in a lead technical role, as well as enacts as a liaison with both internal customers and external vendors.

We are looking to fill multiple positions in Victoria, British Columbia for both CISCO Unified Communications Engineers, and Senior CISCO Unified Communications Engineer /Team leaders. Both positions will support the Maximus call center operations for North America, and the Victoria support team will be fully integrated with the United States based support center.

  • The successful candidate will be well versed in Cisco Routing, Physical Network Design (Layers 1, 2, 3), who can direct and evaluate service providers, who also who also has a working knowledge of CISCO Voice components coupled with system administration and virtual storage experience. The successful incumbent will help identify areas for improvement for network/operational excellence.

  • The senior candidate must have the ability to lead a small team for ongoing support as well as small project implementations of the CISCO systems, and be comfortable in working with external support organizations to resolve issues and grow our systems.
  • Maximus supports a complex network system with multiple data centers spread across Canada, and integrating with the US organization and works with government network support teams as well as our hosting and network providers to support the networking requirements.
  • The successful candidate will be a methodical problem solver and will analyze and resolve business challenges within budget, and is comfortable with peer and supervisory feedback. You must possess a desire to learn and adopt new processes for continual improvement and to keep abreast of new technologies.
  • Some evening shift work and standby support will be required.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide network engineering and support on Cisco UC and Contact Center Platforms including: CUCM, CUC, UCCX and UCCE, CUBE, voice gateways, voice circuits (IP and/or TDM).
  • Engineer, configure and lead the design, configuration, and deployment of all Unified Communications infrastructure.
  • Configure/troubleshoot/build profiles, etc. in a Cisco CUCM, UCCE solution.
  • Design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco Unified Communications Systems including: Call Manager/Unified Communications Manager and Contact Center Enterprises.
  • Responsible for implementation (build) of a variety of voice patterns including: Cisco and Contact Center applications and peripherals.
  • Install and configure Voice Gateways and Gatekeepers as part of the IP telephony system.
  • Assess, design, and document technical requirements supporting business/RFP needs.
  • Analyze existing voice and data networks and recommend solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, upgrade, and provide solutions to complex hardware/software problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Must Have Skills Summary:

  • Cisco Unified Communication Manager Administration
  • CISCO Call Center Administration (PUCCE or UCCE)
  • CISCO CVP, Finesse, Jabber, CUIC
  • Network Management tools

Must Have Experience:

  • 4 to 6 years of experience administering, engineering and supporting Cisco voice gateways.
  • 4 to 6 years of progressive work experience with Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) including G.711 and G.729 codecs, Digital Tone Multi Frequency (DTMF), H323.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience administering, engineering and supporting Cisco Unified Communications infrastructure including: however, not limited to Telepresence, Tandberg, Polycom, Cisco Call Centre.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience administering, engineering and supporting an IP/PBX platform.
  • Ability to work independently and with a strong sense of system ownership.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with sensitivity to the audience and content of discussion.
  • Experience with Interactive Intelligence CIC IP/PBX suite.
  • Experience with SIP Peering.
  • Firm understanding of CUCM call routing, device pools, codec configurations, dial-peers, and partition management required.

  • Knowledge of other gateways and VOIP protocols.
  • Ability to communicate technical terms to non-technical users preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience of following an ITIL model preferred.
  • Collaboration skills and attention to detail preferred.
  • Strong best practice in adopting and compiling to a development lifecycle model (system and user acceptance testing in the lab) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP and the ability to install and troubleshoot LANs and WANs preferred.


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent level of experience in Information Technology, Networking (VOIP and Call Center).
  • Cisco networking certifications preferred.
