Horizon Recruitment Inc. is looking for someone to join their global purchasing team to support a variety of projects. As the Senior Buyer, Technology you will be responsible for acquiring materials, services and equipment particular to the electronics and computing industry. Your activities will include identifying key suppliers, soliciting and evaluating quotes and bids, awarding orders, and resolving transaction issues.


  • Conduct formal bids and obtain comparative quotes from several sources for purchase requirements and sales pursuit proposals
  • Search for goods and services from qualified reliable vendors; conduct seller qualifications due diligence as needed
  • Establish and develop formal buyer-supplier relationships with re-seller agreements
  • Engage in buying activities such as negotiating software license purchase, seeking equipment rentals, forming equipment maintenance agreements, arranging product trials, issuing purchase orders and managing them through to completion
  • Team with internal clients to develop project procurement strategies
  • Act as a resource on procurement related matters such as expediting orders, arranging shipments, returning goods for repairs or exchange, finalizing payment terms, facilitating custom clearances and applying duty and tax rules on transactions

Requirements (experience/skills):

  • College or University Degree in Commerce or Business Administration or Grade 12, plus SCMA Professional Development Program Level 2 completion or a combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five years of experience in purchasing
  • Materials Management experience in an electronics or computer related industry an asset
  • Understanding of procurement responsibilities such as business ethics and fundamental purchasing principles
  • Exposure to material control, shipping/receiving, traffic inspection and applicable engineering desired
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Oracle or similar system would be an asset
  • Good analytical ability and inherent attentiveness to detail
  • Effective English communication skills (oral/written) is essential as is time management, organization, and interfacing abilities
  • Demonstration of proactive problem solving skills
