Senior Application Developer (Information Technology Support D)

Department: Learning Information Technology (LIT)
VSB Education Centre - 1580 West Broadway
(Position is 100% in-person/in-office)

+ extensive benefits package & municipal pension
pre-approved OT paid as double-time ($79.34/hour) 


In this role, you will:

  • Develop and deliver training workshops for technical and end user audiences
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to service stakeholders and colleagues on service solutions and technical environments.
  • Gather detailed requirements for data solutions tasks
  • Prepare solution documentation with detailed resource and completion estimates
  • Develop solutions utilizing modern coding methodologies and technologies
  • Prepare and execute detailed plans for complex multi-functional projects
  • Assign tasks and monitor progress for other team colleagues
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of core district data
  • Establish standard data exchange practices and processes
  • Provide mentorship to team colleagues on data solutions and technologies
  • Establish standards and procedures and write specifications, scripts and documentation for technical architecture and systems
  • Research and analyze emerging trends in technology and systems architecture, evaluate alternatives and make recommendations
  • Define and implement standard procedures and best practices
  • Provide support, direction and apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to address escalated issues
  • Liaise with stakeholders, LIT teams, vendors, contractors and other third parties as required to support district data services
  • Prepare maintenance and communication plans for district services to ensure they remain fit for purpose
  • Perform information technology support to the Division
  • Perform other related duties as required


  • Completion of grade 12 plus more than 2 years of full-time equivalent post-secondary training in a relevant technology discipline
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in information technology
  • Experience working in a K-12 education organization an asset
  • Advanced skills in the full life cycle of software and website development including requirements gathering, writing specifications, designing and programming web and mobile applications
  • Extensive development experience using modern code management technologies in a DevOps environment and excellent problem solving skills required to build and support district applications and websites
  • Experience in designing and developing applications using current versions of C#, Java and/or other relevant programming languages and tools such as PowerShell
  • Experience developing and administering applications in an Office 365 tenant utilizing tools such as Power Apps and Power Automate, the modern SharePoint platform and implement, program, problem solves and support Office 365 applications and services
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and experience in designing/delivering presentations
  • Must be able to meet the following assessment:  Hands-on 1hour series of tasks/problems (70%+)
