The Scientist leads and contributes to pediatric research that aligns with BC Children's Hospital Research Institute's (BCCHR) overall strategic objectives and priorities. The Scientist is expected to develop research grants to attract external funding and work with researchers to establish new initiatives and a research program at BCCHR. The Scientist will be reporting directly to the BCCHR Senior Executive Director.

Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time (until December 31, 2028)
Salary Range: $73,320 - $104,793 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday; 0900-1700

The Scientist is expected to develop research grants to attract external funding and work with researchers to establish new initiatives and a research program at BCCHR. The Scientist will be reporting directly to the BCCHR Senior Executive Director.
What you'll do
- Designs, conducts, interprets and reports on studies in relation to community-based participatory action research, specifically in the areas of mental health and substance use, mental health and substance use care, and harm reduction in adolescents and young adults.
- Prepares academic manuscripts and technical reports and disseminates findings including publishing work as required. Prepares abstracts, posters, and oral presentations for conference submissions. Represents BCCHR in presenting information at scientific conferences as required.
- Prepares reports and proposals for grant applications to funding agencies such as CFI, CIHR, NIH, NIMH, and NSERC. Participates in project proposal reviews and progress reviews.
- Keeps up-to-date regarding new initiatives, developments and trends in their area of specialty through literature review, contact with peers at other organizations, professional associations and attendance at seminars, workshop and education programs. Communicates information and makes recommendations to the Senior Executive Director, BCCHR.
- Provides mentorship to early career clinician investigator members, trainees, and staff.
- Acquires and analyzes data related to emerging issues in their area of research to provide accurate and timely information to guide improvement in care and provincial health policy.
- Leads and/or participates in working groups and committees to further the strategic objectives and priorities of the BCCHR.
What you bring
Qualifications
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a PhD in relevant field and a minimum of seven (7) years of additional research experience in medical anthropology.
- An established track-record of research relevant to patient centered care and ability to develop a successful independent research program, as demonstrated by prior significant contributions to high impact publications and appropriate references by recognized authorities in the research discipline.
