An opening has become available for a self-motivated and collaborative Safety Compliance Specialist to join a marine transportation business based in Burnaby! Reporting to the QHSSE Manager, this role is responsible for maintaining effective quality, health, safety, security and environmental programs, and plays a key role in the administrative function of the QHSSE department.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support the implementation of safety management procedures
  • Conduct regular inspections audits and observations for compliance with regulatory and company policies
  • Attend field operations and other audits to review procedures
  • Act as a resource for employees regarding all QHSSE matters
  • Support and participate in the workplace health and safety committee
  • Assist with company and vessel drills/exercises including planning, organizing and documenting
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard assessments and incident investigations
  • Prepare and issue safety related communications to employees
  • Conduct new employee and contractor orientations
  • Coordinate and administer training programs and weekly operations/safety meetings
  • Other duties as required

What You Bring

  • 3-5 years of experience in the marine transportation industry or a similar industry
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar Health, Safety and Environmental position
  • Degree, certificate, diploma or post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Solid understanding of QHSSE systems, procedures, regulations and best practices ideally as it pertains to marine/petroleum transportation
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure with limited supervision
  • Fantastic leadership skills and the ability to work in collaboration with others
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required
