Job Description & Summary

A career in our Sustainability practice, within Risk Assurance Compliance and Analytics services, will provide you with the opportunity to assist clients in developing analytics and technology solutions that help them detect, monitor, and predict risk. Using advanced technology, we're able to focus on establishing the right controls, processes and structures for our clients to ensure that decisions are based on accurate information and assure that information provided to third parties is accurate, complete, and can be trusted.

Our team helps organisations plan, source, deliver, finance and measure the wider impact of products and services. We're helping to future proof businesses by making them more resilient and sustainable. You'll focus on identifying and prioritising sustainability issues, setting goals that support alignment and integration of the sustainability vision into overall corporate strategy, and implementing processes, controls, systems, and dashboards to measure progress for consistent and accurate reporting.

The Sustainability/ESG Group in the Vancouver Risk Assurance practice of PwC LLP provides non-financial assurance (certification/registration/consulting) to many clients throughout North America and around the world. The certification/registration assessments are to a variety of standards including:
• ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Standard • ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standard • ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard • ISO 27001 IT Security and GHG related standards
In addition, we provide advisory services related to health and safety leading industry practices such as development of integrated management systems, development of Bow Ties, Tripod Beta incident investigation, design of Risk Assessment Matrixes, environmental compliance reviews among other services.

Specific to the forestry, paper, and packaging sector we provide certification to the following standards:
• Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) Chain of Custody Standard • CSA Z809 Sustainable Forest Management Standard • American Forest Foundation (AFF) 2015-2020 Standards of Sustainability for Forest Certification • PEFCTM International Chain of Custody Standard • Forest Stewardship Council® Controlled Wood and Chain of Custody Standard

What You'll Create and Do

As a Senior Associate, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy, operations, certification to execution. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Support managing PwC's certification practice's business management system operating procedures in alignment with our regulatory requirements as an Accredited Certification Body. • Conducting certification audits to our accredited ISO management system standards (ISO 9001 Quality, 45001 Health and Safety, 14001 Environment). • Supporting business development initiatives, proposals and budgets. • Work with teams to deliver management system related ESG consulting projects. These may include operational effectiveness reviews in high hazard industries, • Liaising with resource companies, other consultants and our regulatory bodies • Researching issues and present opportunities/alternatives and conclusions to the Client. • Continuously communicating with the Manager and/or Partner with respect to engagement progress - risks, issues, variances from plan in terms of time, budget, etc. • Taking full ownership of electronic audit file and external file completion. • Analyzing engagement economics of self and team and explaining variances from plan • Developing strong relationships internally at PwC and with our forest sector clients help grow self and business opportunities. • Identifying potential opportunities to provide additional services to our clients. • Be responsible for the planning and coordination of assessments and advisory services, which will require you to communicate with the Project Manager/Lead Auditor, the auditee/client and audit team members. • If not already completed, you will need to complete an accredited Lead Auditor course or courses to any one or multiple management system Standards listed above enabling you to carry out integrated certification audits and advisory services. You will work towards achieving your Auditor or Lead auditor designation for each of the management system standards. • Supporting business development activities such as assistance in preparation of budgets and proposals and initiating marketing of services to new and existing clients. • Travel throughout North America and some international travel may be required as COVID restrictions ease.

What you'll bring to either of the roles

• Post secondary education with an Engineering degree in one of the following disciplines: civil, mechanical, chemical engineering would be a preference or other degrees would be considered e.g., environmental management. • Hands-on operational experience in a high hazard industry (international or domestic) in any of the following: mining, utility, chemical, oil and gas sectors as applied to occupational health and safety and or environmental management hazards and risks. • Specific to the mining industry, familiarity with the operational application of the International Council on Mining and Metal (ICMM), Mining Association of Canada (MAC) Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) and Responsible Mining requirements would be considered an asset • An understanding of process safety, hazard identification, bow ties, ALARP methodology and or environmental management, water management, tailings management, dam safety, emergency preparedness and response associated with one of the applicable industries would all be considered an asset • Communication/interpersonal skills - to be able to interact with front line workers through to management and or C-Suite. Fluency in Spanish would be considered an asset. • An Auditor or Lead Auditor designation through one of the following auditor certification bodies IRCA, Exemplar Global and or a CEA designation or relevant Occupational Health and Safety designation by a recognized body would be an asset.
