The Quality Support Technician will work as a member of the BC Cancer's Immunotherapy Program based at the Deeley Research Centre (DRC) in Victoria. The successful candidate will assist in the maintenance of Quality Control (QC) systems in support of the DRC's immunotherapy manufacturing laboratory. These systems include, but are not limited to, inspection of incoming supplies and reagents, document creation and review, QC assay performance and validation, environmental monitoring, and QC instrument qualification/calibration/preventive maintenance. The Quality Support Technician will work 37.5 hours/week Monday through Friday and will periodically be required work weekends, evenings and statutory holidays. Under the supervision of the QC Specialist, and other members of the QC team, the Quality Support Technician will prioritize and perform the following duties.

What you'll do
  • Execute a variety of established technical procedures according to written protocols.
  • Perform experiments by following established laboratory procedures according to written protocols.
  • Record results, including computer data entry.
  • Provide input regarding modification of procedures as requested by the Department Head, Principal Investigator, or designate.
  • Preserve and stores cell lines and primary cultures.
  • Maintain and stores test materials and products.
  • Keep inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • May demonstrate work methods or procedures to less experienced assistants as designated
  • Inspect incoming supplies and reagents for conformance to specifications.
  • Conduct analytical testing on in-process and finished immunotherapy products.
  • Perform routine environmental monitoring of manufacturing facilities.
  • Coordinate regular maintenance and calibration of QC equipment.
  • Perform cleaning activities in the QC area.
  • Order QC supplies and reagents.
  • Assist with QC equipment qualification activities.
  • Assist with QC assay validation activities.
  • Create and review Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure work is carried out in compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assign.

What you bring
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from a recognized Bachelor's program in an appropriate discipline (Bachelor of Science); or a recognized Diploma program in Biotechnology.
  • Two (2) years of recent related experience in a research laboratory. One (1) year must include experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical/diagnostic Quality Control (QC) environment and familiarity with endotoxin testing, flow cytometry, PCR and microbiological techniques or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Knowledge of GMP/GLP/ISO guidelines, cell therapy, immunology and/or immunotherapy would be considered an asset.
