The Research Branch provides expert research, evaluation, data, forecasting and analytical services to support the Ministry to make better decisions. Branch activities result in new policy and program initiatives, lead to new legislation, support Ministry and Government budget decisions, and contribute new knowledge to the fields of social assistance, labour market and poverty. The Branch maintains its own research and statistical database with nearly thirty years of detailed monthly client data which it uses for caseload forecasting, monitoring trends, impact analysis, evaluation, research and data requests.

This position supports program and/or policy development goals through the development and delivery of research studies, and communication of findings through various forums including working groups, committees, and Treasury Board briefings

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:


  • Bachelor's Degree in statistics, mathematics, data science,engineering, social science or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research; OR
  • Experience in designing and developing data sets and analytical tools.


Preferences may be given to candidates with 1 or more of the following:
  • With both above experience requirements
  • Experience using SQL
  • Experience using Python programming language
