The Repair Welder & Steel Fitter is primarily responsible for conducting repairs to vessels supported at the Delta Repair Facility. These tasks include normal ship board service repairs and more extensive repairs and renewals during refits carried out on site at the Repair Facility. General tasks would include fabrication of new or replacement vessel components, welding repairs to vessel hull, deck houses and bulwarks, on-board piping systems and equipment. Additional responsibilities include ensuring appropriate inventory of welding supplies and material stocks, and ensuring welding machine maintenance is carried out.

Please note: this position will be based out of Delta, BC
Duties/Accountabilities
  • Repair damage on worn hull components, hull structures, bulwarks, fenders, deck houses and other on board items
  • Fabricate replace or modify components for ship systems and structures, perform duties such as welding, constructing new piping spools, brackets and pole holders
  • Assist in daily routine maintenance of both the facility and vessels - while ensuring the shop is tidy and clean and well stocked
  • Maintenance of welding supplies and material stock. Responsible for relaying requirements and coordinating maintenance of welding machines
  • Other duties as required
Education and Experience
  • Completion of Grade 12 education, plus post-secondary training in metal / pipe trades. An apprenticeship would be an asset
  • Valid CWB welding tickets PWP 7; PWP 10; CWB stick; CWB flux core and GMAW
  • 3 years experience with both pipe and steel fitting, and aluminium welding
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
  • Valid BC drivers licence
  • Knowledge of relevant legislative requirements applicable to vessel repair and certifications
  • Proficiency certificates for operation of fork lifts, man lifts, and mobile cranes would be an asset
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and is safety focused
  • Excellent planning, organizational, people and time management skills
  • Strong work ethic and self motivated
