Job Description

The Release Manger is responsible for ensuring that software releases, changes and other transitions are to proceed in an orderly fashion thru each lifecycle. In this manner, the Release Manger leads process for software releases and coordinates activities between development, test and operations.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Manage the release lifecycle which includes scheduling, coordinating and the risk analysis of releases across the enterprise for multiple applications across various Portfolios – MemberDirect, Payments, and other portfolios as assigned.
  • Release Manager is responsible for implementing and managing release process for the progression of code in the development and test environments and assists with Go-Live activities including the checklists and execution of the deployment plans to production. 
    Conducts Release readiness reviews and business Go/No-Go reviews, and maintains the release schedule for all core services to ensure alignment across key stakeholders. Ensures the deployments are smooth, including verifying that code has been checked in, documentation updated and testing completed as required. Participates in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks.
  • Maintains a release repository and manages key information such as build and release procedures, dependencies, and notification lists. Release Manager will assist in managing projects and interdependencies to ensure milestone adherence to ensure the integrity of the release can be measured. Develops scripts and uses automation tools to build, integrate and deploy software releases to various platforms as required.
  • Chairs the process meetings, including discussion of decisions about including or postponing features or changes to the next release. Communicates outcomes of the meetings and release statuses to stakeholders throughout the organization, drafts meeting minutes and edits changes orders, summarizes the collected information into “Release status” to present and monitor the progress and status of a release. Manages risks, and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality, deals with emergency releases and conducts rollout/rollback planning. Assists in establishing project timelines, ensures assigned projects follow schedules, and informs stakeholders of any unplanned slippages. 
  • Liaises with and manages expectations of internal and external parties in regards to planning and rollout of new releases.  
  • Organizes and gives Release Management related presentations to staff within the Department and Group. Ensures positive working environment oriented towards trust, open communication, creative thinking and cohesiveness. Maintains current knowledge of release activities for Central 1’s family of products, and of the architecture of the Central’s test environments.
  • Performs other duties as required to deliver exceptional service and to support Central’s business goals.


University degree in computer science (or equivalent) and/or 4 to 5 years relevant experience in a specific technical or functional area, analysis and problem solving of complex technical issues.

Ability to keep team members focused on schedules and objectives, build strong team relationships, take ownership of individual and team results, and foster a sense of urgency and dedication to delivering on commitments. Highly developed analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills are essential. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using technical terms with employees from various teams across the organization, adapting easily to changing priorities and needs, and working on multiple projects with tight, sometimes conflicting deadlines are required. Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle, ITIL processes, service standards, and experience with software repositories is crucial. Demonstrated customer service, client relations and team leadership skills are required.
