Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at GR Baker Memorial Hospital.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.

This job description addresses various scenarios where nurses are required to work in one or more areas requiring advanced training & experience.

The Registered Nurse - Perinatal/Medical/Surgical, working collaboratively with the inter-professional team, plans and provides direct patient care to obstetrical patients during the intra, postpartum and high-risk antepartum periods and other assigned medical/surgical patients by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Nights, 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 (rotating)

Qualfications
• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• One (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Completion of a recognized Perinatal Nursing specialty program.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate
• Current Fetal Health Surveillance Course Certificate

Skills and Abilities:
• Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
• Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and apply maternal/fetal/newborn theory and expertise to provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.
• Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.
• Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.
• Ability to teach and instruct patients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional team.
• Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
