•Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to educate individuals with chronic respiratory disease •Identifying patient/family learning needs and delivers education and counselling to clients in order to prevent respiratory complications and to improve quality of life •Implementing teaching strategies in group sessions for the patient's needs •Evaluating the outcomes of education and quality of life issues using industry recognized standard measuring tools •Conducting direct patient care activities by physical assessments, reviewing diagnostic information and determining the psychosocial needs of the patient and family members who are living with chronic disease. •Developing a plan of care based on assessment findings which would include identifying short and long term patient goals. •Participating in research clinical trials Your background includes:
•Graduation from an approved School of Nursing •Three (3) years' recent related experience and demonstrated clinical competence in teaching groups of patients and allied healthcare professionals •Currently has a recognized post basic clinical training or education courses in the principles of Chronic Disease Management and/or in Respiratory Rehabilitation •Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNP). •Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
This role is a casual position located at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) in New Westminster, BC, which is a provincial referral hospital (tertiary/trauma care centre) with 422 acute beds that is a University of BC Affiliated teaching hospital. RCH is located ½ hour from downtown Vancouver, and close to rapid transit, shopping, restaurants and other amenities.
