In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Clinical Practice Consultant - Elderly Services Clinician practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.
The Clinical Practice Consultant - Elderly Services Clinician is to champion, guide and lead the delivery of a comprehensive care for clients. The Clinical Practice Consultant - Elderly Services Clinician will promote the delivery of quality client care by providing clinical consultation and expertise, education and direction based on a specialized body of knowledge to interdisciplinary team members. This role will collaborate with other Elderly Services Clinicians and members of the inter disciplinary teams; research and evaluate current standards and facilitate the development and implementation of program policies and procedures, education programs for staff and quality improvement initiatives, incorporating evidence based 'best practices'. Qualifications
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or as a practicing RPN Registrant.
Minimum of two years recent experience in working in a mental health setting, preferably with older adults.
Current CPR certification.
Valid Class 5 BC driver's license and use of personal vehicle is required for travel with the region
Skills and Abilities:
Assessment and Intervention: Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
Teaching: Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
Knowledge Integration: Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice. Knowledge of legislation related to Health Care, i.e. Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent & Care Facility Admission Act, Adult Guardianship Act.
Communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means. Ability to effectively apply conflict resolution skills.
Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice: Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
Management: Manages time and resources, implements activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, supervises responsibilities of others, collaborates across disciplines and related activities.
Leadership: -Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.
Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Meditech and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area
