About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

Centerra currently has an opportunity for a full-time Registered Nurse to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site. This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off, Tuesday to Monday, with 12-hour shifts; considerations will be given to an alternate schedule of 4/3 Monday to Thursday, 10 hours per day.

The on-site Nurse is the medical lead for the Mount Milligan Mine site and acts in a “physician extender” role. You will work in partnership with the Primary Care Paramedics on-site. The position is directly linked to a BC-licensed on-call physician group and can collaborate with the physician or medical oversite to develop an extensive initial patient care plan. The position oversees all medical situations occurring on-site, maintains records of injuries, accidents and treatments and communicates same to management.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • In partnership with the Primary Care Paramedic: Setting up and maintaining the medical treatment facility on site to ensure it is effective and well organized (including purchasing and monitoring supplies)
  • Dispensing prescription and non-prescription drugs under direction from a physician when necessary
  • Maintaining health records for all employees who are working on site, particularly those with chronic medical conditions who may need attention
  • Documenting the nursing process in care management through assessment, diagnosis, and treatment consistent with appropriate standards of practice
  • Diagnosing and treating health issues; working together with remote physician when necessary to determine further diagnoses and treatment necessary
  • Co-ordinating client health screening and surveillance programs and services: monitoring work environment to protect the health and safety of workers
  • Identifying the need for case management intervention and conducting a thorough and objective assessment of the client’s status and case management needs
  • Implementing occupational and environmental health and safety training and education
  • Working in partnership with the Industrial Hygiene professional to identify, reduce and eliminate long term occupational exposures
  • Maintaining diagnostic equipment in the medical facility to be in good working order
  • Working together with Environmental and Safety teams to ensure knowledge of occupational hazards
  • Working closely with Safety and Human Resources for occupational injuries, illness, and disability management
  • Liaising with off-site health care providers, on-site team to ensure appropriate RTW program is in place for both Occ and Non Occ injuries
  • Delivering and manage disease prevention, respiratory surveillance, and exposure programs
About You

To qualify for the Registered Nurse role, you must have a University Degree in Nursing (RN), as well as a minimum 5 years' experience as a nurse working in an industrial, remote area. For this role, you must have a valid driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Knowledge and understanding of industrial disease, injury, and illness
  • Understanding of addiction and mental health issues
  • Working knowledge of WCB compliance and reporting
  • Experience dealing with a wide variety of illness and injury
  • Special training in CPR; cardiac arrest; ACLS; and triage (asset)
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and make sound decisions in a timely fashion
