Real Estate, Development or Property Accountant

A growing Property Management Group, which services a diverse real estate portfolio, spanning across Western Canada and Western USA, is looking for a Senior Property Management Accountant Properties range from large scale industrial business parks, office buildings, multi-residential buildings, and commercial retail spaces.

As a Property Management Accountant, you will work with a small team to provide full-cycle, operationally-focused accounting to a diverse and expanding group of properties. This role requires an experienced Accountant who can think on their feet and is willing and motivated to support the group beyond the scope of accounting. A driven, self-starter is required.

Responsibilities include:

Monthly bank reconciliations including follow up and correction of outstanding items
M/Q/A Working Papers
Financial statements preparation
Corporate income tax preparation
GST reconciliations
Full cycle property accounting
Update year to date and annual forecast information for senior management
Communicate key issues with the Controller for process improvement
Liaise with Property Managers, Leasing Managers and tenants in a timely and professional manner as required
Update Rent Roll and keep all files accurate
Post all rent, follow up with tenants if required
Prepare and enter annual operating budgets for over 30 residential and commercial properties
Perform Operating Cost Reconciliations
Coding of all Property Management invoices
Reviewing job cost reports for accuracy
Update accounts for all lease amendments
Review and post accruals for commissions, improvements, and incentives
Review Accounts Payable and Receivable sub-ledger reports for each operating property, following up with tenants and managers.
Sit down with head of department weekly to review all operational issues
Qualifications required:

Property Management Accounting experience
University degree/diploma required (concentration in accounting) and enrolment in CPA program an asset
Positive attitude and solid work ethic
Strong understanding of operations
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Advanced computer skills including Excel and other Microsoft Office products
Knowledge on computerized accounting software - Sage is an asset
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Highly organized and detail oriented
