Ballard's Quality Team has a position available for a Quality Technologist in our Burnaby facility; reporting to IQC Team Lead. This is a technical position, but requires administrative skills with direct interface with Supply Quality Engineers, engineering department and management. The successful candidate must be a certified CMM technologist and is responsible for dealing with day to day issues that arise in the Incoming Quality Control (IQC) department. The Quality Technologist will also assist with the development of appropriate incoming inspection control plans and effective inspection techniques.

The Quality Technologist will be able to analyze the results of tests and inspections of incoming material, and help determine the disposition of non-conforming material. When nonconforming material is received, the Quality Technologist ensure the timely disposition and return of material. The Quality Technologist works with Part Engineers and Quality team to effectively contain the problem at Ballard.

Responsibilities
  • Programs and performs CMM measurements
  • Ensures the consistent application of inspections and tests in IQC
  • Reviews and analyzes the results of the inspection tests and helps to determine the outcome of products that are not accepted
  • Participates in the development and the initiation of the techniques for inspection, testing and evaluation of incoming materials. Evaluates techniques and recommends changes

Requirements
  • Certified CMM technologist
  • An undergraduate degree in science, engineering or technology is preferred
  • Two or more years of experience as CMM technologist and quality inspector
  • General quality background knowledge is required: basic understanding of measurement techniques, measurement systems analysis, inspection sampling plans, and quality tools
  • Understanding of statistics as they apply to quality
  • Must be able to quickly learn about and understand the technical issues and processes related to the quality issues
  • Basic understanding of supply chain and operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, clarity is required in all communications when explaining complex concepts to all levels of personnel
  • Must be easy to work with (co-operative team player), yet able to work independently when required
  • Strong record keeping and organizational skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple issues simultaneously
  • Must be able to work under pressure on timelines and act with a sense of urgency
  • Knowledge of APQP concepts is preferred
  • Knowledge of PEM fuel cells is beneficial but not required
