For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Business or Quality Management. We are seeking a highly motivated and diligent Risk and Quality Analyst Co-op to join our HVC MLE team for an 8 months work term. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to gain valuable experience in supporting risk assessment, quality assurance, and compliance activities within a construction environment.

You will work under the mentorship of our experienced professionals to support project teams in ensuring that construction practices meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards.

If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you are willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. You are also currently a student enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution and will be enrolled throughout the duration of the co-op term (you will also be returning back to the post-secondary institution once the co-op term is completed). Proof of a valid work permit will also be required, if applicable.

Pay Range: CAD $4,000 - $5,100 per month

Salary is commensurate with the number of academic semesters and prior co-op experiences completed.

Working Conditions:
  • Location: Highland Valley Copper is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, which has all of the comforts of city living and is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.
  • Access: This is a drive-in/drive-out role. Most employees commute to site by car, and carpooling is common among team members.

Key Responsibilities

Risk Management Support:
  • Assist in identifying and documenting potential project risks (e.g., construction, safety, environmental, financial)
  • Help maintain and update the project risk register
  • Support the monitoring of mitigation actions and controls
  • Participate in risk meetings and assist in preparing summaries and reports

Quality Assurance Support:
  • Assist in conducting site inspections for quality and compliance with specifications
  • Help supervise observations, non-conformities and corrective actions
  • Support the maintenance of quality documentation and control procedures
  • Participate in audits and learn how quality systems (like ISO 9001) are implemented on construction sites

Documentation and Reporting:
  • Collect and coordinate project data related to quality and risk
  • Assist in preparing reports and presentations for internal use
  • Help maintain documentation related to compliance, inspections, and project items

Learning and Collaboration:
  • Shadow and learn from Risk, QA, HSE, and Project Management professionals
  • Attend project meetings and site walkdowns
  • Participate in training sessions on risk, safety, and quality standards in construction

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, Quality Management, or equivalent
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Basic knowledge of risk management and quality assurance principles is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Diligent, organized, and eager to learn
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required

All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug and medical screening prior to commencing work.
